Not sure what I would do.  My first thought would be ... you are kidding - right? I tend to agree with Nina Hollander - that mindset would likely come up with other demands that might cause me to pass on the listing.

As for the loss ... more reasons to add to why that person hates so much.

I've never had a request like that but, I have had sellers request that a particular brokerage not be allowed in their home.

I only want a qualified, ready, willing & able buyer - they can believe anything they want to - it matters not to me!

I dno't remember that, Fred. In my case, I've not run into this issue, but if I were to, I might just pass on that listing... not because I might or might not agree with the homeowner's views, but because it's a warning that these people could come up with all sorts of other excuses and issues that would make the sale difficult. And I'm always wondering, how do we go about asking someone whom they support politically? And how would we know if they were telling the truth?

I do remember the AR discussion when the house first went on the market.  I suspect that the house sold for what the market was willing to pay and was overpriced at first.

I would not have been interested in working for that seller. That would have been asking for trouble.

Not allowing other people to the freedom of opinion can be costly. 

I do remember that question or post & thought good luck enforcing that without problems. Sellers asked for it & the agent didn't help matters by letting it go on or continue. HUD will be visiting.

How will the seller know about political believes of the buyers? 

If I knew of the seller restriction upfront, probably not! Too many issues to face for so little benefit!

Fair Housing solves this in the public arena. 

They either comply or sell off market privately FSBO.

Ultimately how would you know? You can't ask and if you do they do not have to tell you and or they can simply lie. 

This seller is as big an idiot as Trump, ironically.

I would not take the listing, the seller doesn't sound like they are stable and it would probably end up a nightmare.

No I would not, just like I would not take a listing from anyone who tells me what religion, color or nationality, etc, I cannot sell it to.  That kind of conviction is only the beginning of the hell that the seller will exhibit in the long run...A

At the present time, political affiliation is not a protective class. But why would someone be this foolish?  

The least tolerabe people are those who preach tolerance. Politcs has blinded them and hate is making them act worse by the day. Selling a home is a business. Sell at the best price to the most qualified person no matter who they are. It is like the restaurants not service Trump supporters. SO short sighted, narrow minded and just plain foolish. A computer store here put up that notice and a month later they were out of business.   

We can choose or not choose who we work with.

Even though political beliefs are not a Protected Class, it makes 'no sense' or 'no cents' to me, to have someone be so narrow-minded Fred Griffin.  Would their next comment be about someone's ethnicity or gender or orientation.  We would have to have The Talk - if I decide to take their house, I want to sell it.  I am not there to pick them or anyone apart.  Seriously, for me . . .  life is too short! 

I would love to walk in with a "MAGA" hat and write an clean offer, just to sue her in court for discrimination.  Now where is HUD on this?  Sure they can sue faceybook over the ability to discriminate (but no proven discrimination) and they're silent on this person who is actively discriminating.  F'd up!

Then advise the buyer agent(s) to keep their clients big mouth shut.

Be aware, when the call comes to make a showing appointment I will advise the buyer agent I will call for feedback. It should be clear to anyone with a brain, the words I want to hear.

To me, this is ridiculous.  Without digging into it, there's no way of knowing if the seller lost over 100k or if the home was originally overpriced or if the market changed from the time it was originally listed to when it went under contract.  The seller and/or agent may have even thought the anti-Trump angle would get them more interest, money or both from those aligned with their position.

The idea of rejecting offers from those who do not share your political position is a not a winning approach.  It's downright foolish.  The buyer is not offering to move in with the seller so they can enjoy having the same opinion.

I don't ask people about their political beliefs as i don't want to hear or have that discussion. I will sell to anyone legal and that is qualified so that will never be a problem for me.

Political beliefs should not interfere with real estate transactions! 

No.  I have enough business to say NO to crazy people.

Couldn't possibly be that a client this out in left field could be unrealistic with regard to list price, could it?  Sounds like the seller may have had many of her own ideas, and price wouldn't surprise me.  Overpriced sellers are prevalent in every market.  

A home in California could easily sell to someone that didn't vote for Donald Trump...if priced right.  It's not like she is shutting out the majority of buyers.  I think this story is just to get people amped up over politics again.  Don't bite!
