Use the Buffini & Company hiring plan in the members area.

$15.00/hr is what I paid before I went virtual.

FYI your assistant is an employee, so setup payroll and taxes, etc. accordingly...serious changes in 1099 vs W-2 rules with the new tax laws.

Consider a temp agency or VA.

If they are a salaried employee, meet with an attorney who specializes in Employment, and/or a CPA who can advise you on taxes and withholding.  Hire them "at will" so that you can fire them if you need to, without facing a civil suit.  If it is their full time job, pay them a living wage.

I have been in hiring mode all of this year, adding members all over the teams, including a few admins.

  • The KPA and DISC are good tools to help with a little extra insight into candidates.
  • Dont make it all about money, if that is their only priority then they may not be the best candidate.
  • Those who are more interested in learning and advancing toward higher positions or performance pay are more likely to further your teams goals.

I gave up on them years ago... but I will recommend that you hire slow and fire fast. And make certain you don't violate any tax or employment laws. Hiring an unlicensed assistant can be more headaches than they are worth from a liability standpoint.

Thomas J. Nelson, Realtor, ePRO, CRS, RCS-D has some good ideas. I would be VERY clear on what you want that person to do and be very aware of the right style, personality and skills set that is needed. Where will they work? How many hours?

The best advice is pay them well for your area and be sure you hire a licensed assistant. Congrats on the hire too, Praful!

Small base pay and additional every time you have a closing. In this case she/he is more motivated to help you.

I have tried it and although always works well at first, i find that if i am not there, right up on everything... it is not done to they way or how i want. It may start out good but i find it more work to review then to just to do it myself first. Maybe i have not found the perfect person. I offered great pay, bonuses and commission too

Make sure you have enough work and that that work is spelled out.  Consider consulting with an HR company about payroll and what signage you need in your workplace.

Ability to follow instructions, finish what was started and take initiative is the focus. Then, training, resourcefulness and desire to act consistently. Precaution is not the right approach. Compensations should be a base salary with incentives for bonus, splits and innovation
