Answer A for me.  Most of the people I know do not use a formal dining room and prefer their home not have one.

It depends. Really it does. The trend seems to indicate less but our area tends to have a lot of older homes with a floor plan that has a formal dining room that is used often but not necessarily specifically for its originally intended purpose.

We had a custom dining room set made 40 years ago and initially used it often. Dragged it to Florida and used it less. Dragged it two more places and used it even less. Finally, we moved again and left it. No formal dining room for us. Too hard to dust!

No lesss then 300 days a year.

That is where ALL the family computers are installed and used. These are parents who caught a clue.

For dining? Everyone in Florida eats in the pool enclosure. If the room in question is visually separate from most of the house like in some McMansion models, they have become gaming centers.

I use mine quite often!

Many of my clients don't see the need for them now though - many just store a dining room table there because it's right at the entry of their home or they have a family heirloom they don't want to store.

I do use my more casual areas that spill into outdoor space far more than my formal dining room though.

Well it's either our dining area, out on the patio, or the kitchen counter. No formal separate space. Some of the larger new homes have them but many buyers don't seem to want them or use them much. I'm guessing B as an overall average.

As a dining room for eating a meal, we use ours less than 5 times a year. The nice large table in there gets used for many projects throughout the year though.
