I tend to fall in love with my vehicles. And just like people in my life I won't trade them in unless they disappoint me. LOL!

My cars are leased and I get a new one every 36 months, but typically Honda calls me sooner and trades out for a new lease because my mileage is low and they want to sell my car. In the corporate world, I had a company car. I've never owned a car that I drove till the wheels fall off.

I kept my last car for five years and then purchased a new one. The last one came with five years of free servicing (except tires) and I knew things were starting to go and repairs would be expensive which is why I got rid of it. Plus it wasn't practical for my career choice.

My first new car was a Camaro, kept that in great shape for 20 years. I do have a 12 plus year old car in my stable now and it is in near mint condition. No set date, I just buy quality and take good care of them...no wheels falling off over here!

Get attached the longer a car is around. Read a Neil Young book over vacation about the cars in his life and he saw them as old souls need repurposing and to repair, to let them live in their original glory again. His first car for the band was Mort, a 1953 Pontiac hearse, a 1950's Buick Roadmaster hearse, etc. Special Deluxe is the book's title.

I loved my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee.... I had the whole front end replaced and refurbished it.... kept it for 17 years.... everyone thought it was new.... I always had 2 vehicles so this one was just for winter....only had 85,000 miles on it...
if I like a vehicle, I'll keep it or trade it up for a new one of the same model.... love my BMW hardtop convertible 430ix.... I'll buy another one in 4 years....

I like to buy and hold and get my money's worth. If it looks okay and gets me from A to B, I am good. I don't like car payments. I bought one car brand new and am still driving it 12 years later (and plan to for as long as I can) but will not buy another brand new car as they depreciate so fast.

I take good care of my cars and they last 10 years or more... and still look new. When maintentance issues start eating dollars, I get something new. Right now I have an '06 Toyota Sienna and an '08 Ford Taurus. They both run (and look) great but I'll probably be replacing the van within the next year just because I want some of the newer technology. I may even sell the car and get back to one vehicle.

I used to drive a Ford Explorer. It was about 10 years old and I was fine with it, but clients seemed to think it meant I wasn't successful.
I bought a used Lexus sedan and drove it for lots of years. It was around 10 years old and I had no immediate plans to replace it, but a drunk guy changed that when he slammed into it and totaled it.
After that, I bought a two year old Lexus SUV. I'll probably keep it for a good, long while.

Clients see our cars far more often than they see our office, and I can understand why some agents change cars frequently. Clients like to see successful realtors driving status symbols. You have many goals in mind when considering whether keeping a vehicle or selling it. Is the car presentable to your clientele and not too old even if shiny?? ha. Are repairs constant or is maintenance typical. If the car is financed and paid off and is recent enough and well kept then you would probably hang on to it. I have never set a milage number on any of the cars I've owned to trigger a sale or trade in. Some older models you can pass off as a classic owner too if kept really well. The new luxury imports are being flagged for over complicated electrical and guidance systems (the new 7 Series Bimmer is in the top ten worst luxury vehicles). Mercedes's S series is a good buy used btw as the body has been changed very slightly. Until they revamp the body most people do not look close enough to tell which year you are driving.

I'm still driving my 2006 Red Hummer. It looks great, is unique and has been paid off for 9 years. I have put down $1,000 on a Tesla 3. Let's see if I go through with that purchase.

My Volvo X-Country gave up the ghost at 186,000. I could have done the work but the expenses of the old horse were adding up. I sold it to my mechanic. I then bought an Infiniti X37 and love it. Hauls tail and has all wheel drive plus the interior is gorgeous. My cocker loves it too! I had to buy one of those Orvis rea seat blankets to save the leather! M clients always ask me about my dog. I couldn't figure how they knew I had a dog because I remove the blanket when I show property. One told me, look at your windows. My dogs cute little nose and hanging tongue was all over the interior's windows! Ooops!
