If people would understand that anything they post online can be eventually accessed by someone, then there would not be any issues.
I can't believe that people are so dense to believe any internet visible data can be secure.
Banks and government agencies get hacked, why do they think social media sites would be different.

Anyone who thought their PUBLICLY POSTED CONTENT would not be viewable by THE WORLD and considers this a scandal/issue/privacy concern really needs to wake up. No offense, but this is like having your email on your web page and being mad when someone harvests it and spams to it.
I've been off of FB for some time and have been deleting my personal page's content over the past two years BECAUSE I understood this a long time ago and for me it was more their political slanting and allowing pictures of ISIS beheading people to stay up or anti-cop stuff to stay up, but God forbid you post something that's pro-American, pro-cop or based on conservative values, that stuff will be reported by the social justice warriors and removed by FB in the blink of an eye. That's why I left them.
As to alternatives, Gab.ai is a good one that is based on the first ammendment. But for me, I'm more for staying off of social media period.

Let's see, Equifax lost our highly personal, critical credit information; Facebook shared our vacation and fur baby photos, our comments and our 'likes.' Hmm....
It's outrageous what the public concerns themselves with...and what they don't!
Our business screams for us to be social - I'm not giving up Facebook just because they're doing what Google and other entities have been doing for years!
Now...Wanna see a picture I shared on Facebook of my Dukie?!

I'll still post to my Facebook Business Page, I always knew they spied on me & sold my info; it was glaringly obvious when I'd suddenly get ads popping up for something I was just searching for.
I have a personal FB but I rarely-never post on it.
The only thing that will get me off of FB completely, and in a heartbeat- is if they start charging us to use it. It's not worth an investment of any sort of money to me. I'd go right to their competition & start developing my Instagram.

Jerry,
We have a presence on FB, but we are not active. We knew it was trouble when someone posted a picture of us with two agents who were years later indicted and thrown in jail. We had the foresight of removing that photo, way before their dishonesty was discovered...A

I am actually deciding that. I have very targeting ads & am really wondering how much of a decline this is going to cause. I do think that if you don't think 'someone' is not spying on your internet goings-on, something is wrong with you. But they were selling our info to 3rd parties & didn't even know what was going on with the info.
Time will tell. We should do a poll.

There is no alternative currently. The thing people need to keep in mind is that nearly every social media site works the same. If you are not paying to use the service, you are the product...
I choose the high road; Faceboook is an amazing place to connect with and stay in touch with family and friends. It is also an amazing advertising platform where you can dial in a very specific audience (location, income, interestsm etc) and get in front of them for a fraction of the cost of Google ads.

Scandle???? This is not a scandle. This is the media trying to scalp the president. This crap has been going on for twenty years! The internet is full of advertisers watching what you do. If you don't want to be watched then don't go on the internet bc they can see everything you do.
As for me personally, I don't care what folks look at on my Fb page. Look all you want. I have nothing to hide and really don't care what anyone thinks.

I thought one of these most "Don't have a clue" questions asked of Mr. Zuckerberg was, "You don't charge for Facebook. How do you make money?" The Billionaire took a breath and stated, "We charge for ads." If my clients are on Facebook then I will stay on Facebook and stay IN THE FLOW of those clients. This whole knashing of the teeth that Facebook would use our "personal information" to make money was laughable. When you got your first credit card you surrendered it all! I post on Facebook and yes, pay Mr. Zuckerberg to "boost" my post. Cheap and fun! And what do I give up for this? They know I'm married to Lou Ann, have a dog named Jake (cutest ever!), that I loathe Trump, love trout fishing, cajun food and have been a dues paying Realtor for 40+ years. And yes, I do understand WHY those ads for Orvis keep poppign up to the right of my screen!

I believe there is a big difference between hacking and selling data.
To answer your question ... no, it won't.
1,076,551
Nope, I think anyone was being pretty naive if they didn't realize all FB was allowing to happen. When you use a free service, YOU are the product. I learned that lesson a while ago.
1,712,676

No. It's silly to assume anything on social media is ever private. I opened all my settings early on. I will always consider alternatives if the market moves somewhere else.
921,504
I may need to violate the TOS but I will continue on FB.
The lesson to be learned by people who own a business, repeating what I have said many times, FB knows more about their users than ANYBODY.
Business owners should know to UP/INCREASE/MULTIPLY their Facebook ADS budget before the roadblocks are erected. It's still less expensive than the Evil Empire.
Don't use Cambridge Analytics but there are MANY more with the very same capability.
