There are lots of hoa, condo and coop hoa's that do ban certain breeds. And many restrict how many dogs of what size you can keep in the home. This is nothing new. Would I live in one of those? NO! But it might not matter to some people. Hard to guess whether it would hurt sales in the community or help them as it's hard to know how many people feel which way.

Interesting. I agree with Nina Hollander - and I'm curious to see how it all plays out in terms of sales and/or aggressive canine prevention... - Tim

I expect Paris Hilton will be there protesting with her Teacup dog in her purse!

I also imagine a lot of dogs will soon become "service animals" or "emotional support dogs" when moving in... or just fly under the radar.

I believe that absolute rules totally banning pets have been largely stricken down by California courts. There can be reasonable restrictions but not total ban.

Depending on which side of the HOA fence one is looking, this could be a pro or a con to living in that community.

Those breeds are on the danger list or whatever it is called. Some insurance companies will not insure if something happens. It has been this way in our area for eons.

I'm not one for saying 'all' but that is the way it is. I think that the builder can do what he wants until control is turned over to homeowners when he closes out.

Certain breeds have been traditionally banned by HOAs and in Condo communities. Our insurance company will not cover us if a tenant has what the insurance company calls a vicious breed.

We have many communities in my area.  Almost all have pet restrictions.  There are a few here and there that do not. I've seen pet restrictions that allow only a bird.  What were they thinking?

We have a lot of service dogs and ESAs now, and there isn't much anyone can do about it.

Neighborhood? Not even a condo?

Can't have that dog in my yard?...sounds crazy and I am sure it will be a nightmare to try to enforce.  The dog dies, and they get another one the same breed...who knows? what next? DNA testing?

I would worry less about the dogs and more about the thugs breaking in houses, ransacking cars and grabbing the old ladies purse...

Prissy the pit bull would not hurt a fly and is afraid of her own shadow.

Then Prissy bites the face off a baby.

Then there is the 'entitlement' embraced by dog owners. As a non-dog owner can I p*** in their front yard?

Let's not stop there. Such bans simply mean an explosion in designated 'comfort' pets. That is typically the first question of these entitled folks whose intent is to move into condos with long established 'no pet' rules. And guess what, then need more that one comfort pet!

What do I think? Why is 'no dogs' a problem? After all, there are many other places available that do permit dogs.

Ahh, but its the AMERICAN thing. If someone says 'NO you can't do it" it is in the DNA of every AMERICAN to challenge authority at every level.

Somehow, making the lives of others more miserable adds some dimension of relevance to the perpetrator.

The suggestion that the community did allow dogs and now the developer has elected to exercise authority tells me the 'entitled' dog owner wore out their welcome.

until the developer turns over the HOA to the homeowners, there's nothing anyone can do except try to reason with him.... but there should be some restrictions with regard to size, breed and the number of animals....just saying!

Yes, we have many communities with pet limitations....that is a huge issue for tenants.......i've seen people crying leaving their big dogs in shelters...probably for a kill...... for this reason......they could not afford to move out from their rent controlled places.
