Back in the 90s and 2000s we used to bus our homeless up to Santa Barbara and drop them off for that county to deal with (no joke!).

Now, our city council is too self interested to allow the police to enforce the anti-pan handling rules and get the beggers (often driving brand new luxury cars) off of our streets.  Some places have posted signs saying not to give to them, but the education is too little and people out here are all too eager to contribute to the problem.  Out here they can earn 50-60k a year tax free.  Many live out of the area and drive in, many have nice condos or apartments.

The actual homeless, actually stay fairly well hidden.  There are a few encampments around and they usually lead to a brush fire or two.  We only had one homeless person out here who was regularly visible.  She was mentally ill and had a lot of money.  She was waiting for her husband, Elvis Presley, to come and get her.  Yes, like I said, mentally ill.  Her family kept checking on her though.  Eventually she died of natural causes some 15+ years ago now.

It is estimated there are about 4000 homeless in Dallas.  There are many shelters; however, many refuse to use them.  It's a big problem, and I don't have the answer.

YES. ABSOLUTELY YES.

Impacting values ... not yet. Our market is on FIRE and people are paying premiums out the nose for the homes they buy.

Are homeowners UP IN ARMS over the homeless in their area? Yes.

Are they fighting the local government? Yes.

John,

This is too big of a subject to adequately discuss in this forum for me.  I appreciate your question.  There are also people who like the homeless life, that are not mentally ill or drug addicted.  I knew one like that, whose home was in the Beverly Hills Flats fully paid for, had a steady income of stocks and bonds and pension and she hung out in the Rodeo Drive Alley with her grocery cart.  I also knew her daughter who did what she could to get her off the street.  And the famous local shrinks could not declare her mentall ill.  Finally, she gave up.

CRA, City. state, affordable housing measures have not worked in California.

Give me Ford Ord for ten years and three million dollars and I can house 200,000 people in a moderate climate, beautiful setting. some buildings need retrofits. We will have a farm.

You want to come - come with any skill you are willing to share.  On-campus counseling, mental health group counseling, skills learning, a building for those with a dog (but we aren't taking your service Giraffe, they eat alot, no maybe we'll take one. ) You will sign a behavior contract. No illegal drugs.

We can be growing half of what we eat in a year.

Will need funding for:

solar panels and battery storage $500000 - for 15 buildings

new well construction $100000

hospital equipment for the infirmary $200000

We will ask for Federal food subsidies.

Meals will be simple but healthful $7400 a year per person

Much cheaper than Los Angeles building $450000 a unit for one person.

There is some but not at the level I would consider a problem. Many choose to be homeless because those are the people they are most comfortable around.

I live in a semi rural neighborhood as well Barbara Todaro but unfortunately they are beginning to find their way out here as well. Of course San Diego is a major draw for homeless and illigal immigration activity by default. We're also seeing other jurisdictions starting to off their homeless in our direction as well.

It used to be seen mostly in downtown Denver, but lately, I have seen some homeless wandering in Aurora.    Our housing costs are out of control, and believe it is putting more and more on the streets today.
