I would ask them these questions:
1. Do you provide formal training to agents?
2. Is there a program where new agents are mentored by top producers?
3. Are any of my training or class expenses eligible for reimbursement?
4. What is the starting commission split? Does it change with production?
5. Is there a bonus program?
6. What costs am I required to cover?
7. Am I required to have additional auto insurance?
8. Where do you advertise and who pays for it?
9. Are my desired farm areas already taken by other agents in the company?
10. Will I receive a copy of company policies to review?
11. What is the dress code for the office?
12. How many agents are in the company?
13. What is the average gross volume of your agents?
14. What commission does the company typically charge? Am I allowed to offer a lower rate?
15. What is your policy on referrals within the company and to outside agents?
16. Is there any clerical or support assistance available through the company?
17. Do you have regular meetings?
18. Is the environment team-based or individual?
19. Do you handle commercial listings or property management?
20. How many listings does the office typically have?
21. What is the company’s market share?
22. What are your office goals?
23. What are your expectations of me?

Richard Weeks nailed this one! I'm in a family company that I basically run, so I have little to nothing that I look for. Basically it's "Provide support when needed and stay out of my way."

As far as I'm concerned, I hang my license with a top brokerage in town... because I don't want to run my own firm in that regard. But beyond that, after 25 years in the business, I don't look for any qualities from a broker besides availability should I need to call about an issue (which maybe happens twice a year). Personally, I'm all about brokerages that don't overwhelm me with gratuitous paperwork and sales meetings. As long as they leave me alone to run my business I'm a happy camper.

This answer is different depending on the experience of the agent. New agents need a lot of training, support and mentorship. Experienced agents just want the administrative support and be left alone to run their business.

For me: location, reputation, personal relationships( I like prefer smaller offices vs huge boxes), personal and work ethics.

Hi Jason Osborn!
Your question has been asked a few times in the past - so I thought I'd share some past Q&A threads with you (there are many answers to peruse):
- What qualities are important when looking for a broker to work for?
- Just getting started in a career in Real Estate. How should I go about looking/choosing/applying for my first broker to work for?
- What qualities are important too look for when choosing a broker to work for?
- What qualities are important to look for when choosing a broker to work for? #2
- What should I be looking for in an employing broker?
Hope those help - have a great day!

Broker qualities that are important to me:
Be supremely knowledgable about the market and about the contract
Be supportive, available and responsive
Offer training on contracts not just lead generation

However, when I was an agent, I detested the mandatory weekly sales meeting followed by a caravan/tour. Total waste of a day.

the key quality is offering training to new licensed agents.... and to continue that with mentoring as the agent hits the pavement.....

I am past that ... my ship has sailed and there is no looking back. What better way to get all the qualities I looked for than to just be my own broker.

This answer will change greatly depending on an agents experience. WHen i first started, I wanted training, leads, meetings to discuss laws, best practices. Today, I look at split, communiation, paperless, etc

Brokers who are knowledgeable, experienced, and willing to assist. I have come acrossed quite a few brokers who got a broker license by passing the exam but not much real estate experience.

This really depends on where I am in my career progression as an agent. Currently, I don't want to see or hear from my broker.

How do you 'measure' a quality?
You either like them or you don't. This is just as subjective as qualities.
A newbie needs to be a fruit inspector, not a 'do I feel good' reactor.
Going down the 'qualities' garden path is a disservice to those you hope to help.
