We are in agreement with Candice A. Donofrio and Barbara Todaro .  Many times we were the recipients of gifts.  When was the last time your attorney or dentist give you a gift for referring them.  A

A lovely handwritten thank you note and a mention in my newsletter.  

Sometimes a box of chocolates, fruits/cookies gift basket etc. 

Service beyond expectations and staying in contact. No monetary compensation.

We go out for a nice dinner - sometimes it's with the people that they referred as well. 

Either, I take them to dinner or just giftthem a gift card.

What our state law limits us to.  A gift of up to $50 in value that cannot be cash or anything that can be converted to cash.

I mail them a thank you note with a $5.00 or $10.00 gift card to a place I know they like: Trader Joes, Starbucks, Gas, Car Wash etc. Upfront to reward and thank the behavior of referring me.  If it closes escrow I take them to lunch or something like that if a meal isn't practical for their schedule. It's an attitude of gratitude that keeps me 100% working by referral.. 

I have taken people out to dinner as a thank you. They get invited to special events. 

Relevant, useful information (like the value of their home). Seller's Corner, one of our marketing tools, does that automatically for past clients. It keeps them in the loop and, perhaps more importantly, on your radar (for when they eventually sell). - Tim

I send thank you notes. Past clients who refer do not expect to be "paid" for referrals.

I send a nice handwritten note with my sincere gratitude.

  "Thank you" and maybe, "Let's do lunch, on me".  It is llegal in Florida to pay referral fees to non-licensees. 

It is illeagl to give anything.

We found the vast majority of our referrals came from providing our clients kick ass customer service. That's what they remember, and woant thier friends and family to have. 

I may drop off a bottle of wine, a handwritten thank you card.

We give a Starbucks card for any referral whether it closes or not. Thanks for think or us! We give a gift certificate if the subject referral closes. If it is an agent referral, we pay a referral fee, or course.
