Let's see.

You can pay relocation company BIG dollars for a referral.

You can pay marketing companies BIG dollars for a leads.

And of course, other agents like to get their hand deep into your pocket too!

And agents DO pay for these referrals/leads ALL THE TIME.

In nearly every state it is illegal for a licensed real estate agent to pay a referral fee to a non-agent.  So, DO NOT PAY A REFERRAL FEE TO ANYONE NOT LICENSED.

You cannot pay a non-agent a referral fee, a finding fee, or any kind of fee UNLESS they are the buyer or the seller in the transaction.  Period.

Licensed agents in the State of Georgia can not pay anyone else for referrals or commissions. Your principal Broker will issue a check for commission or referral fee to the other cooperating licensed Principal Broker.

If they are not licensed, you can't pay them for a referral. That's the law in many states... what it is in Georgia, I have no idea.
