No, never - thank goodness! What is WRONG with people stealing lockboxes?!

That has fortunately never happened to me, given what those boxes cost. But I also never leave mine unattached... there's always some place I can attach them to.

       I found a door knob with a lockbox on it in the closet of a new REO listing.  

I've had a key go missing from a lockbox once, but not the box. I always ask sellers for a back up key "just in case" the key magically disappears. We can get another key in the box again right away. If a seller doesn't want the lockbox on the front door, we find somewhere else - faucet on side of home, etc., to attach the box. I wouldn't entrust leaving a box without it being affixed to something. That's crazy someone took the door knob, they REALLY wanted your lockbox!!!

I thought I did. The Agent gave the code to the buyer who removed it to place a contractors lockbox on the property. My lockbox was in the house.

I didn't know that was humanly possible, to be honest. Who steals something like that?  - Tim

I can't say that I've had that happen YET. In this business there's always the future. So I can say with confidence that it will be something to look forward to experiencing.

That's right up there with real dumb criminals. Probably a ups thief who grabbed it. I've had a few new home buyers who couldn't wait for me to come yank the box off and cut it with those monster bolt cutters. Morons! It's right up there with the stealing of my Rotary Club's "badge" box. We had them at the hotel in a closet/coat hanging area. We came in and someone had grabbed them. I can imagine the look on their faces--"Badges? Nothing but stinkin' Badges!!!"

Yes.  One of our agents borrowed a company lockbox and when the listing didn't sell, didn't go out and pick it up.  The new agent cut off the lockbox and threw it away. 

Yes, several times, they were all REO listings.

I have had keys taken by agents with condos listed in the same building.

I had my lockbox, in fact the entire doorknob and handset, removed from the house, by some thugs sent by the bank, as part of foreclosure proceedings

It would have been nice if they'd have just called the name of the agent on the For Sale sign out front (me), and I would have happily let them into the house to put their own lockbox in place... without having to permanently damage the front door, and "disappear" my lockbox.

Once. The thieves cut it off, got into the home, turned off the alarm (that's how we knew somebody had given out the code) and stole the stainless steel appliances. From then on we have handled showings differently.

Yes but with REO's only, fixers. Keeps the competition out.

No, have not ever had this happen, that is pretty sad!  

Nope 26 years in and I've never lost a single one.

No. I've had them broken off. So glad we went to the electronic boxes.

*Knock on wood* Never.  I have had to remove bank boxes before... actually two weeks ago, from a house.  Bank no longer knew the combo as the boxes were many, many years old.

I had an agent who borrowed one of mine.  Then we parted ways and I got a notice the lockbox was on a new listing.  I went and got it and returned the key to the listing office with a note regarding the recovery of my property.

No, thankfully since they are quite costly.

Yes twice in the last month.  Both REO's and 1 was the former owner who ripped off the lock and the other was a preservation company who decided they needed my lock box. I wrote about it a couple weeks back because it is happening more and more

Once.  They also broke into the occupied property!

Most recently, the moving crew loaded the porch chair that had the lockbox on it into the truck and headed south.  UNREAL!

I have not. I use the electronic supra key which are very expensive. I would be very upset. 

No.....but I use only supras, it is not easy to cut them off.

Hasnt happened to me but I do see plenty of agents who just set these on the porch trusting that no one will take it.

No I haven't, why would someone steal a lockbox? Had to be kids!

Good grief, Paul.  In 30 years that never happened to me but I never left it unattached to something unmoveable.  Removing the whole doorknob?  Can they do that from the outside? If it was an inside job (pun intended) you should be able to see who the last entrant was.

Oh my goodness!  Thankully no, I did have a hidden key that was removed from the lockbox right before the walkthrough dissapear once.  I did decide to hide it in the ground though so that was not a smart idea.

No but I learned not to put them on a chair on the front porch.

Never happened to me. Not so for signs. A lot of those went AWOL.

Amazing... has not happened to me, but I had one break when it was on a door. It just stopped working. MLS said just "rip it off" the door handle; we'll replace. Had to ask hubby to bring his super tools to cut the lock off.
