I have lots of firewood in my back yard.  We'll usually keep the fire going all weekend & it will heat up the house nice but It's not our primary or supplemental source of heat, it's just for the ambience. I find most people who want a supplemental form of heating their homes will get a Wood Burning Stove or Pellet Stove Insert for their fireplace & those kick a lot of heat out. 

I have a pellet stove and everyone who sees it loves it.... no smell of burning wood.... glass face and looks nice.... it's used to supplement the heat when temperatures are very cold...I use both central heat and pellet stove in 20's or below.....

 I burn it every day and use very little oil through the winter....my thermostat is set on 65 and never kicks on unless it's bitterly cold out....

Propane. We have a fireplace and a woodstove in base,emt, but never use them. We has a whole house generator installed a year or so ago, so we're not too worried about back-up heat. I don't think back-up heating systems help with sales most of the time.

I heat about 98% with wood.  Some people love to have a wood heat of some sort and others want nothing to do with it.

Out here we have a mix of gas and wood.  Wood is more popular, but you don't find them in newer homes.  Darn EPA!

We have a fireplace, we don't use it.  It is a decorative item in our area.  A heating system is the main warmth source in our area.  When we lived in Napa, we did use our fireplace for warmth, and wood is what we bought.  A

When we first moved to Bend in 1985, almost everyone I knew used wood stoves as a supplemental heat source (for some it was used as primary).  I know we used it when our new home had the main heat source go out over Christmas and no one was available to repair the recall part on the holiday. We huddled by the stove for warmth - and slept in sleeping bags by the stove and did fine.   Our children loved the adventure.  Since the late 80's, early 90's, wood stoves have gone out of vogue due to the emission issues and mess. Now to sell a home with a wood stove, the stove has to be epa certified.  If it isn't, the seller (or buyer can assume the liability) has to remove the stove and send a certificate to the epa to prove it has been destroyed. Now people use energy efficient gas fireplaces.  Having a true wood fireplace is a rarity.

People like their wood fireplaces in Nor Cal, but the air district is trying to get us away from it.  I have a wood burning insert to supplement my central air furnace.  

Most of our homes are heated with gas. I have both a wood-burning fireplace and a gas one. We use the wood-burning a few times a year just for fun - the gas one actually helps keep our family room warmer.

Personally, we heat with oil and supplement with a wood-burning insert in our fireplace, which actually reduces the oil bill, as well as looks and feels nice. Also have gas fireplaces (propane), but rarely use them for heating. 

In our area of New England, fireplaces definitely are a selling point.

Got tired of splitting and carrying wood, went to a pellet and got tired of carrying and storing the 40 pound bags, Then went with a gas fireplace insert with a remote. Life's good!

We do not see much heating with wood in our urban area.

We don't use heat often in SoCal, but in NorCal we'd supplement the forced air with wood burning to keep the bills manageable since the wood was free.

Gas forced air in my unit in Chicago! A gas fireplace is there for esthetics, not necessarily a supplemental heat source.

We have forced air heating and C/A.. Occasionaly at Christmas I may put a few logs in the fireplace and have a crackling fire just for the ambience.

Those wth wood pellets can not live with out them, so having one is a plus and if not, the home needs to have room to put one. Most rural homes have wood stoves. With large lots and plemty of would, it is cheaper than oil or propane

I have a wood burning fireplace that uses a cord of wood in the winter.

Most here are being converted to gas.

Sales depend on each client's personal taste and do not hinder the sale.

Good to know for us more southern. The standard here is natural gas heat and gas log fireplaces.

Are you kidding me? Heat my house with wood? Nope, gas furnace.

Clients like woodburning fireplaces most with gas starter.

We have oil heat, but supplement with a wood stove. We just put the stove in a few years ago and it has been amazing - we probably use about 3/4 tank less of oiil because of the wood. And since we cut down/chop our own wood on our northern property, the price for that fuel is $0.

Will watch for answers... not an issue here in Charlotte, as you might imagine.

There is nothing like wood fired heat. This is the first winter in about 30 years that I haven't used wood heat. That's because I bought a fixer upper. My plan was to install a woodstove, but I never got around to it. I even have a perfect spot for it in my house. 

Ironically enough I didn't get around to that project, because I broke and sprained my leg. If I was using primarily wood heat, I would have been very cold for several weeks. There was no way I could have brought in wood and kept the stove running. 

So my next plan is to upgrade my existing heating system, and then to install a woodstove. 

Majority of fireplaces in here are gas. Only older houses and communities still have wood ones. No, does not make any difference in sales. But gas is more convenient of course, since no mess. 

Mostly forced heat and air conditioning in my area. Heat is rarely used and AC a few months during the summer. We have spare the air days when we cannot use the fireplace. New construction can only build with gas fireplaces.

We usually see gas forced air furnaces, some hot water heat boilers.   Fireplaces are either gas or wood burning.  We do see pellet stoves and wood stoves.

When I lived in MA, I had a wood stove that probably did 90% of the heat for my home and I saved a ton of money on my oil bill.  (This was back in the late 70's and early 80's.)

I'm in Georgia and we primarly heat with a free standing wood burning stove.  It's a different kind of warm from a furnace and I grew up with it and love it.
