There is no penalty for duplicate content. If you post the same article on several sites, one of those sites will have a higher trust rank than the other sites and it will be considered the site with the original version of the article and this is the version that will show up in the searches. So, if you have an article on your site that you want to show up in the serps, don't post it to an authority site.

Don't exactly duplicate them. Rewrite them a little bit and change them up; change titles; change keywords. Use some different images.

Yes, as long as you alert the search engines of where the original post was written...or you can change it up enough that it isn't seen as duplicate content.

It better be YOUR blog. Yes they will penalize you & you must give attribution.

If it is not your words you might make mention of where you got them from in italics & link.

Read up on copyright a little bit.

Hope you understand what Greg said.

It's not recommended. Google would have documented when it was first published and the first published site typically gets the credit for it. If you post it in too many places, Google could see it as "spam" and could penalize your website if it is linked to from each of the posts.

If you are a guest author / guest blogger, most sites will require that you submit original content for that reason.

One thing I would be careful with, is not to have too many links with the same "perfect" anchor text. For example if you write a blog post with a link to your site with the anchor text "homes for sale in Boston", then you post the blog in ten different websites, you may run into problems. Using your URL or domain for anchor text is safe.

I read some where that the best way to do this is to post the content on your blog, then wait at least 2 days to publish on other sites ie ActiveRain, Linked In Etc. and when you post it the second time add this post originally appeared on x.com with a direct link to the place it originally appeared.

There is not evidence to suggest a duplicate content penalty.  If there were just think of how many sites have the EXACT SAME CONTENT with respect to your listings!  Every portal plus every Tom, Dick and Harry with an IDX enabled website!

As Greg Cremia said, some sites have a higher domain authority than others and will rank higher because of it.  The best advice is to post the blog on YOUR site first, then get it indexed and let it season a week then post it to the other blogs.  Google will see your site as having had the content first and that helps.  It's not something I have the patience for though.

You have lots of great answers here. As you note some vary on opinion. The best starting point is your own WordPress site that you fully own and manage. Ideally, you want to your content indexed on your site before you share it on other sites.

Google answers this question here: "Duplicate Content"

The key section on the topic is this: "In the rare cases in which Google perceives that duplicate content may be shown with intent to manipulate our rankings and deceive our users, we'll also make appropriate adjustments in the indexing and ranking of the sites involved. As a result, the ranking of the site may suffer, or the site might be removed entirely from the Google index, in which case it will no longer appear in search results."

it doesn't really penalize you, but if you post something on your own site and then on AR it's going to rank better on AR because AR gets more eyes.  So I take that google juice AR offers and write a new intro and then post a link back to my site and it generally will boost the original post in the rankings.

Multiple offers are pretty scarce in our current market. A paucity of inventory, rising prices, many buyers and multiple offers characterize our current market. Those who submit low-ball offers are destined to be losers in this market.
