I think anything over $500K is considered high end. I couldn't find anything listed over $850,000 and that was a 3 bed / 3 bath home on 5 acres with a 3-car garage plus a 40 x 60 shop. Anything over $700K is lumped together in market statistics. There is a 7 month supply in that range. The highest volume and fastest selling range is $250 - 300K, with a 1 month supply. I don't know how you define luxury so I can't speak to that.

Maine house for $27,500! 62 acres of surveyed Maine land with a view $25,000! Every real estate market rock and rolls so so differently.

In Charlotte, it's in the high $400K's. I have to do this exercise for the Institute for Luxury Home Marketing, who requires that we 'round up' to $500K in our area.
The threshold for the luxury market is determined by the sold price (MINIMUM VALUE) of the TOP 10% of residential sales in said market. Again, Charlotte would be considered $500K by their definition/criteria.

The luxury areas start at 1.5m and go up to 40m. The "Lake Sherwood" area where Tiger Woods has his golf tournament starts at 3.5 and goes up to 11 right now. Down the road there have been some ranches for 40m and maybe even higher.
This is the most expensive listing in our MLS right now... $27,000,000
The commission on that is over half a million! I'll be happy to write the contract up!
