That's a great question. AR Q&A participants have responded to this question many times. That is irrelevant since you are new here and you have asked this question just one time.

Here is the problem.

#1. Any broker type that allows you to use the terminology 'work for' is the one you DO NOT WANT TO WORK FOR. Kyle, you are in business for yourself. If you don't figure it out, they take your $12,000 and kick you to the curb. You need a broker who will partner with you in the execution of YOUR BUSINESS PLAN and commits to a 30 day engagement.

#2. Most of the 'qualities' you will be advised to assess can not be measured while seated in the office.  How are you to measure honesty, training, leadership, mentorship etc while in the office?  You will get better results simply choosing a broker over 6 feet tall (no obvious Napoleon complex) and BMI less than 23 (no obvious blind spots).

What you need for this important decision regarding your business is FACTS. Facts you can get and assess while in the office.

You have two and only two questions for which you need a response. From the responses you can derive everything else you need to know to make a mature and informed decision. Those questions are:

A. Total number of licensed agents in office (that includes all agents on teams)

B. Total transaction sides for office in past 12 month.

This data along with your business plan will be a great predictor of what your future holds. If the facts aren't there, you will be entering a fantacy world.

You need to acquire a copy of 'Get On The Right Track' that details how to analyze the data and guides you through creating an executive summary business plan (one page).

90% of newbies never see their 2nd year anniversary.  The industry is dependent on the churn of newbie money. Be smart and be part of the 10%.

PS: Just a passing reminder. Take a look at this video for a good idea of what you are getting into. God Made A REALTOR

This is a personal preference. Everyone has different needs in their business which is why there are so many brokerages and so many different business models.  Of course the broker should be knowledgeable, available and honest. But what are YOU going to need?  Mentorship? Coaching? Training? Office Space? Signs & Business Cards? Leads and clients handed to you? A Team? Receptionist/Transaction Coordinator Available?  The question isn't what is most important, the question is What is most important to YOU. Good luck! -Kasey

I've lost count of how many times this question has been asked in the past couple of weeks. Answers galore to this in this section of Active Rain if  you do some research. What qualities do you think are important. And by the way you do not work FOR a broker. You are an independent contractor who hangs his license with a brokerage.

This question comes up a lot & that's because we all want to start off on the right foot when we enter the business. As a new Agent I'd be looking for something different than an experienced agent would be. I'd look for a Broker who's knowledgeable & willing to share that to help develop you into the best agent you can be. Someone who is well respected in the industry because they may need to go to bat for you one day. Someone who is not competing with you for listings & is dedicated to developing the company & it's agents 1st. Qualities like that.
