We have enough homeless here to fill 2 shelters, I work at one of them two nights a week.  Will be heading on over there in a little while.

Yes. Homeless are everywhere. CalTrans cannot keep up with cleaning up after the mess and garbage left on streets and freeway off/on ramps. We have homeowners up in arms about homeless camps near their homes. There are tents everywhere.  

I think 200 is the average on some blocks of Huntington Beach, CA.  The problem is rampant here in CA in most cities and spreading to a lot of communities.  Of course, with all that said, if I were homeless, I'd probably choose to live in SoCal, too.

  The City of Tallahassee / Leon County built a new "Shelter" that offers 3 hot meals a day, no questions asked.

  Suffice it to say that part of town (West Pensacola Street) is economically ruined.  The apartment complexes had to hire 24-hour security to keep the transients from bathing in the swimming pools.   There are winos on every street corner with "work for food" or "God bless, please help" cardboard signs.  It is sad, because there are few if any people there who truly want help... not just a handout.

Its here and its steady...The young, able & crafty milk it while the veterans, older men and mothers and children need it. The drug addicts, criminal elements and alcoholics flaunt it.  Discerning between it all takes work

Not so much where I live now (in CT) but when I lived & worked in NYC it was everywhere, especially by MSG & in the Subways. Hard to walk down the street near MSG & not see homeless everywhere & in the freezing cold. Big problem.

Whether it is increasing or not, it is as Roy Kelley states a sad situation.  Some of the situation can't be solved but kudos to the person(s) who find a solution.

It has sadly worsened over the years for Los Angeles (was in L.A. briefly before moving to O.C., now I'm back & NO I have not added myself to the homeless population).

We don't seem to have an increasing problem here in Wisconsin.  Sad to hear about those 200 currently homeless in MD.  I will say a special prayer for those who need housing.  Thanks for sharing these statistics. Jeff Pearl 

I don't see a change but with weather getting colder maybe they will go to shelters.

There are homeless in Minot ND but they are pretty much invisible except at shelters and the public library.

Jeff, it's bigger here than I knew in the past. There quite a few homeless people in my small community.

I have heard that rising rents in Charlotte are beginning to increase homelessness, but don't know the statistics, which are hard to really measure in a metro area of over 1.5 million people that is very spread out.

We haven't seen much change in Oklahoma City.

Tis the season for a homeless invasion as they migrate to the warm weather.

One of our local universities did a study this year and found that homelessness has decreased by 26% since 2010 and 12% since last year in the Charlotte Metro region. This is in spite of the 17% increase in population in our area over the past 7 years as well. 

We have a very low unemployment rate and numerous assistive organizations to help those needing job training & placement. That's likely a large reason our homelessness is declining.

In our Sunny Isles Beach we have a few "local" homeless people. 

Here they take an "out of sight, out of mind" approach

In Pinellas County Florida, a devious system is in place to keep this growing population out of sight. 

First, the city made being poor/homeless against the law.

Second, those sworn to protect and serve give the dis-enfranchised the choice, go to jail or to the HOMELESS incarceration center know by the name Safe Harbor. This facility is located at the extreme north border of the city. Once exiled to Shafe Harbor, the dis-enfranchised have a very difficult time getting back to the city therefore out-of-sight.

They will always be the measure of the darkness in the heart of others.

I think we're holding steady here. "Homeless" on Kauai usually means illegal camping at beaches or in remote areas, living off fishing and fruit from the trees. Some are forced into that life and some actually choose it, but it is not as bad here as many areas. 

Maui has a normal migration, they come and they go, except some with the local community.  Very sad situation, we were in Subway and this guy was just hanging out, my wife is like buy him lunch. It was a small thing but it's humbling it could be you or members of your family.

Its increasing everywhere as the line between haves and have nots continues to widen.

Not in my small town, not many places to go to be safe and alone

They have been sighted on equistrain trail and creek down the path. The small town I am in now got home less. A fox has no where to go as Divident Homes built filled the vacant lot which was her domain. She is our neighborhood pets now.

In Florida we have a lot of them - warm weather. 

In Sunny Isles Beach we have "permanent" homeless - a few of them. 

I have to say are area is increasing again.

Jeff, we do see more and more homeless people, and saw one about two blocks from my house, and have NEVER seen any around here.    

No, our climate is too cold and we don't have shelters for them to stay in.

no shelter here and a rural area and I have never seen a homeless person here.  In the closest city (about a 45 minute drive) there's a couple of shelters and a small homeless population.  I recently sent some items for them with my daughter to work because winter is near.

Don't know about real homelessness, but the fake pan handlers are ever increasing because our city won't take a stand against them!

It is seasonal in Sarasota as the temperature drops up North. In San Diego, it continues to climb along with the Hepatitis A outbreak.

I don't know but suspect that it has.

Not in my area (Gilbert AZ), but I am sad to hear this as I grew up in Montgomery County and lived close to Frederick (Germantown) for many years.

We have seen a a change on who is homeless, in my area it is less those who can not afford a home and more drug addicted people. We have so many resources now for any one who wants or needs them. 

The numbers are up.  It is estimated there are about 3300 homeless in Dallas.

Last year we had 150,000 California Residents experiencing homelessness. However I believe the real number is 3-4 times higher since so many are undocumented....
