no one does that in my area.... that was done 20 years ago here.... there were two agents here who went partners and made a bundle.... "hungry tom and honest john".... it's beyond me how they made any money!!  one was at the front door and one was at the back door.... can you picture that???

I get the letter every once in a while.  Got one a few weeks back that was so poorly done "Dear single story homeowner"   Seriously!  They couldn't spend the extra dime to do the mailmerge with a name!  Then they had some indian call center call up a few weeks later.  Almost ripped them a new one.

As to going door to door, one agent pair does in my area.  They're friendly and I get along well with them.  They know I'm an agent and it's something I mention up front.

It has been yes, but it did happen. He did say he was searching for a home in the area for a buyer. I told him I was also licensed and not inclined to sell, but if he presented an offer quickly I would give it consideration. Asked if it would be immediately or take a day? Never head from him again!

I haven't had anyone do it, but I will go door to door to invite neighbors to my open house and I did get a couple of listings by doing that.

  Ben, from a local office, showed up at my house 10 or 12 years ago.  That's the last one!

  FWIW, Ben is still in the game, great guy... but I bet he has learned to do his homework/research before knocking on a Broker's door with a printed CMA in hand!

I don't know if I'd have the cojones to try it in this state where everybody carries, LOL. Nobody has ever arrived at my home in such fashion. I'd consider it pretty entertaining if they did.

I have had politicians knock on my door, which they usually quickly regret.

Well, anyone who was brave enough to traverse down a heavily wooded gravel road lined with 50+ No Trespassing signs would be met with a stink eye...so far, no one has made the attempt.

They would only do it once around here. We had some annoying pushy bitch agent not long ago that kept calling and emailing about a rental. In her last voice mail, she said that she has tried everything to find out about whether or not a house we own (that has long term tenants in it), was ever going to be for sale, and if she didn't hear back from us, she was next going to come knock on our door. If she had, it would have been the last time that effin bitch knocked on our door or tried to contact us.

I had a call from one last week - never had a knock on the door though! That's just crazy to knock on the door of another real estate agent - it's bad enough to phone one! LOL

Just 2 weeks ago! I was at a listing appointment and 2 gals knocked on the door. The sellers told them their agent was here right now and since they had a buyer they should speak to me! Loved it!

Kathleen, it was about two years ago and it was a new agent from our office who was starting out on a high producer's team.  I played dumb(it comes quite naturally) and listened to his pleasant presentation introducing himself and I liked how he told me about his background before entering real estate. 

It was quite effective and he accomplished his goal of introducing himself to our neighborhood; sans any sales pitches  for business at the moment.  I then identified myself and complimented him on what he was doing.  It was nice because Sharon had a transaction with him about six months later and we knew who he was among the myriad of new KW agents.

My only regret is that I should have asked him to help me pick up walnuts on our lawn as we chatted.   ^_~

The jerks in my last community wouldn't knock, they'd just leave flyers/garbage laying on the front patio.

I just love door knocking, made an extra (Large $ amount redacted) last month strategically knocking (non real estate) between set appointments...it's not really a part of my business plan, but couldn't resist.

(Direct answer to your question: I remember 2 in the last 20 years, very little competition for the real estate knockers out there).

Kathleen Daniels A fear tactic that rarely works. Chance of having a buyer is slim and none. A poor way to prospect for listings.

I haven't had any door knockers, but we don't get much foot traffic where I live. But I do get quite a few calls on my home number which is on a "do not call" list. I usually try to be nice and not only inform them I am an agent, but that this number is on a "do not call" list, they act innocent. Then I tell them if they keep calling I will file a complaint.

Most of the time they are just buying lists, but they really should do a better job checking first.

I contacted city hall about a solicitation flier on my door from Coldwell Banker with 3 no solicitation signs on the door.

There are just 5 realtors live on the street with no room for 6th. The charge was he has no city solicitation permit. $300 fine. 

Ironically, they don't knock, but leave crap on our doorknob. Easy way to make enemies and I love this behavior from others.

I also don't beleive that is an effective tactic. I had an Edward Jones rep do that (before we put the sign up) and my question to her (since I am a marketer) was "It's 2017... don't you know you can reach so many more people online, and much faster?" She said it was a part of their model to get out and meet the community. I can see that as a benefit, but I am not sure that is how people choose their financial advisor.

I've only had one real estate agent knock on the door, and it was hysterical because I yelled out the window "NO!" when I heard him talking to my husband. I ran out, and it wound up to be an agent I had recently met who didn't know that was my house; he was just introducing himself to the neighborhood. Well, we wound up to be good friends and we joke about it.

I have knocked on expired doors, but that was a very long time ago. I’ve necer had anyone knock on my door, nor have I ever received a cold call from an agent. I get lots of cold calls from chimney sweep companies though.

 Since 2013 March nobody can knock and solicitate me - sold the house.

I may have had it happen once or twice in Hawaii 9 - 10 years ago but never anywhere else.

I've only ever had ONE stranger knock on my door and that was a census person who wanted info on my neighbor.  I politely asked her to leave my property.
