I know from my Greek background that this is an area off of the altar in Eastern Orthodox churches where vestments may be kept and where some preparations for the liturgy take place.  Beyond that, I don't know if it has any other connection to architecture, unless it means an anteroom where coats are stored.

It relates to The Eastern Orthodox Church which was the church I grew up with.  It is avasical a place or room to keep books, priets vestments, etc.  Never thought my courses in Old Church Slavonic would come in handy, LOL
