I network with many B2B power partners; that's my source of back-links and not as hard as you mention when networking consistently.

Happy to share some thoughts on backlinks.

Blogging on other sites is an easy source of backlinks Ron Tissier. In my opinion, the smart move is to always blog on your own site first, then branch out from there with all your content produced on other sites pointing back to either your site or an article(s) on your site (think of it as a funnel).

Here are several sites (domain authority in parenthesis) you can get real estate backlinks from if you are willing to write articles there:

  • (73)
  • (68)
  • (61)
  • (58)
  • (41)
  • (90)
  • (42)
  • (70)
  • (45)

Some you can sign up and post freely to and others you need to ask to be a guest blogger. I have not checked them lately but many still provide do-follow links.

Quality backlinks from high domain authority sites can and still do help both your content and site rank higher. However, you still need to produce decent content if you want to rank long-term in the SERPS.

Add in the use of content curation sites to generate lists of "like items" and you can get both backlinks and sharing assistance from others you add in your lists (sites like, storify, pearltrees, flipboard, and tribeer) can all help. Here is an example (apologies for the slight hijack).

Sharing outbound links in your articles to articles by others in the industry is a great way to get your content shared to their readers. The more eyes on your information the better. If the articles are good, and/or you have a large social media presence, you will be surprised how quickly you can grow your network which will ultimately increase your industry backlinks and guest blogging opportunities.

The advice in this thread is all over the your own homework and determine if you believe backlinks can help you. It is my opinion when part of an overall plan (content, backlinks, social, etc.) they can and do make a difference.

If you are serious about building long-term quality backlinks, following this plan should keep you busy for the rest of the year. If you do all of this consistently, send me an email in January and we can discuss some other ways/platforms that will help even further.

Helping each other helps us all!

Everything you blog, shoot for video, upload for images better be wired for SEO. Reach into those internal pages beyond your website domain home page works best. If the back linkage was easy, everyone would be doing it. Getting the audience to lift white cardboard with black "10" scoring results on your prowess on the parallel bars with back links. Use your software to check for rotten links like flossing or praying. The 404 links, 500 internal server errors on your website and weed those out with the 301 redirects to the links that will work for your website users.  Make sure the links you do have work before off to the races for a new link pot of gold.

Like Corinne Guest, Managing Broker stated, backlinks don't have the power they once did.  Now content is king and some barely used features are going to become VERY important over the next couple updates, from what I've been reading.

The best way to get quality, industry specific backlinks (because that backlink from that PornHub profile isn't going to help a real estate business... except for that one San Diego realtor & swingers party host) is to create your profile, with a link to your website, on the main portals (realtor, zillow, trulia, homes,...) as well as the networking forums (Active Rain, Bigger Pockets, etc.) will give you the most "bang for your buck."  There are some black hat ways of getting lots of quality industry links too, but I won't go into those ones, period.

Yes, it's challenging and time consuming.  My best advice (which takes time) is to network with other bloggers/other and then you may earn the right to guest post.

I have clicked around on some Active Rain blogger's sites and I almost alway find a dead link or something that doesn't work.  Can't do it to me as I am not spread all over, and don't check, it's boring.  I used to let "this person or that person" know when I found something but didn't get an answer back so I don't comment anymore.  Would this make a difference?
