History of Art by Jansen is still used today to teach with revisions for political correctedness.  It goes in depth discussing the different column style and their adornments.  It was a question on a test in college.  It has to do with the Corinthian colums, and it is one of the eight stalks of leaves that adorn it. My initial thought was a heavy skinlike build up on the underside of a structure that can be removed by a trained nail and Cauliculus specialist.

well, this must be a tough day for Google, too.... a search resulted only in calculus.... I did take that course in college and I'm embarrassed to say I only had a C+ for the final grade....  a required course for a biology major.... and here I am with 39 years of real estate....I should have majored in marketing.
