I am old enough to remember fondly when broadcast journalism required objectivity, and your reputation and livelihood depended on that. It's not really news anymore. It's all tabloid op-ed.

You now have to select very carefuly the news networks, magazines, newspapers and reporters analysis and reports and still need to double-check everything. It's a pretty sad state of affairs.  There are some very specific networks I don't even watch anymore, I've been so disappointed by their lies, spinning of information, lack of professionalism, lack of quality research, and their manipulation and contortion of the news, facts and reality.

Not long ago, I wrote a post about a Wall Street Journal article updating the bad drought we were experiencing in Santa Barbara.  This journalist had last year's pictures.  The day he wrote it, the local news announced that were at 150% of rainfall.

The media always has an agenda, first and foremost to sell something...$$$ matter to them more than good research and the truth.  A

When the IRA were bombing in Northern Ireland, the news in the US and Canada would show pictures of the wrong bomb site, in the wrong town, wrong area.  It was like someone said "get me some file film on bombs in Northern Ireland" and they would pull up whatever was handy.  I then wondered if it was the same in Beirut, etc ???  It's been going on forever!

With the coined term, "Fake News" it now makes many question all news, so if that was the goal, it is achieved, as those that question take everything that they read, see, or hear, with a small percentage of truth, as opposed to believing an entire story, i.e., "Real News".  I certainly question more, believe less, and know as a given, that the initial story will change, sometimes very quickly, other times, over time.  We are not told the entire story, let alone the complete true story.  Annette Lawrence , Palm Harbor, FL 727-420-4041, here, regarding real estate, home prices are recovering slowly, and so is the price/square foot, so that is a positive trend.  It is moving along quicker in some larger cities, and slower in some smaller cities.  Inventory is still low, as it was last year.

News used to be the who, what, why and where and on the local level was spelled out or if statewide, at the national generalities location. Now too much of the sum it up nationally and we all know every market is different and influx. That's why appraisals are not good for more than six to twelve months. News reporters who don't research like blog post writers who type fluff or display old news or opinion as industry gospel create inaccurate information that misleads... which is a form of fake news. Half sound bites and agendas, anger and wanting to make a big headline in news reporting does not feed the masses healthy, truthful information. I was a broadcast news director in an earlier life and did more than rip and read off the AP or UPI teletype.

A litmus test for me is: if "traditional" media was providing consistently Truthful, Complete, Relevant, Facts and Stories; combined with Balanced Point and Counter-Point Opinions - the upstarts like Breitbart, InfoWars, ZeroHedge, Drudge would have little to add to our knowledge of current events.  There is indeed an info war going on...
