Try candle wax, that is what I use to lubricate slides on cabinet drawers.

Fred, I have tried soap before and it works OK.

Funny you mention this but we just got back from a listing 30 minutes ago and I used vaseline petroleum jelly on the tracks and that works very well.

Just dab some on your finger and rub it on the tracks and work the window or sliding aluminum screen door back and forth a couple of times and it works very well.  This lasts much longer than using the soap.

I just read where someone said that WD40 was not the way to go. Also not graphite. I use a candle or bar of soap. I'm sure someone will say that's not good either.

Use something that doesn't get dirt and bugs stuck in it. I would look at Armour All products. Also, for a quick temporary fix, you can just take a bar of soap and rub it on the edges.

I've heard running a candle over the track to deposit wax.

This site recommends a graphite spray:

These pictures frames are so affordable. My remodeller contractor trashed the old ones since the aluminum leaves are too dirty to spend time cleaning it.  Get new ones.

Anything but WD40....

One way is to rub wax from a candle. It won't attract dust like WD40 does

Fred Griffin Clean the tracks and and use something like graphite. Be careful with what you use that in the long run will attract dirt and dust and cause the same problem.

 Thanks, EVERYONE.

I will try each of your suggested solutions (candle wax, paraffin, graphite, silicone, aluminum lubricant, etc.) on the different windows.

BTW, this is a rental property; it is not worth the cost of installing brand new windows.
