It's a bummer, but many do not want the attention, especially during a divorce.

They don't want all the neighbors to know. I'm assuming they would find out eventually!

Also, they don't want people to drive by and stop and ask them questions.

The high majority of my Sellers do NOT want a sign mainly because supposed buyers seemed to have been raised by wolves!  They enter the grounds with no appointment or agent "just to take a peek"!!!

They may not want everyone to know they are selling their home and also for security reasons. The community may not have a gate and can attract unwanted crime.

In today's highly technical world, a sign on the ground is not as important as it was in the past.

I have heard they don't want the neighbors to know they are selling.  However, the neighbors should get suspicious when strangers are going in and out of their home all hours. The for sale sign is a great marketing tool and why any seller wouldn't want it does not make sense to me.

Why? The like their privacy. They feel less vulnerable? They embrace the same fear expressed by some AR real estate agent, that is the fear someone will knock on their door.

A detriment? How can it be? Real estate agents repeated say, '90% of buyers are going to come via another agent?"

Are real estate agents  (or NAR the origin of most misinformation) misguided in saying things like  90% of buyer come from other agents and 'buyers start their home search on the Internet?'

They don't want a bunch of drive bys and nosy neighbors, and don't want to have to constantly engage in discussions with the curious. There are communities here that don't allow signs, and the houses always sell just as well as houses with signs.

If they are on the witness protection program registry, mum's the word. Signs on US highways, high exposure areas you get on your knees and plead to let them to planted for the eyeballs to scan. Dead end sign road with no people, weak resistance to the let's sign it.

Multiple reasons why a seller would opt to not have a sign... It would not change my marketing strategies but I would clearly notate in the MLS that there is no sign for the benefit of agents that may find it confusing when arriving at a showing.
