I haven't flown United in more years than I can count... but yes, it would cause me to look for alternatives with any airline that behaved this way. This was one occurrence too many. But the issue is not so much the occurrence, but the response from the CEO... and that is a corporate culture/values exposed to the public. If the CEO sets a standard like that, it goes through the entire organization and it's no surprise this happened.

It is not even enjoyable flying anymore. No, there are many many occurances that passangers are being mistreated. I think UA needs to learn to rent a car as an option for its employees instead.... Its stock tumbled $400M in one day.
There were 100K+ cyber protests. There needs to be corrective action and apology as overseas customer (affecting UA $- big time) are cancelling flighs. The CEO has an attitude problem.

I fully expect the morally outraged will create Tshirts with cutesy sayings, picket the place, and say they're boycotting. This too shall pass. There will be something trendier along any day now.

I don't fly enough to know which airline is really good, or which sucks...
However, why is it OK for someone to start shrieking like a looney and refusing to disembark when legally told to do so?
This doc had his medical license temporally suspended for 94 felony counts of peddling illegal drugs and trading drugs for sex...what was this nut on?...and again his license is in jeopardy with restrictions.
Of course he is going to milk this United screw up so that he never has to see patients again...which may be a good thing.

Peter,
We just flew United and had a great experience. Should I give you the benefit of the doubt, because you made one mistake? Should we give someone hte opportunity to fix it or do we just condemn and be self-righteous about it?

I actually stopped flying them years ago, along with other airlines that lost their way with customer service. Virgin America is all I fly domestically, obviously these days.

Hmmmm,
This aligns with many Americans definition of striking it rich. (lottery, lawsuit, inheritance) Working hard or invention is not on the list.
Yes, I would fly and decline any incentives, hoping this is my day.
The reality is, fliers are accustomed to being abused the moment they enter the airport. We did little in regards to TSA groping, maybe this is the red line, but I doubt it.
Would I avoid United? Yes, if other alternatives were available. Many times, that is not the case.

No. I think it's ridicuous what happened, but I also think the customer was wrong in the way he acted. He wanted to create scene in the way he did not put on his big boy pants and walk out to discuss it and get to a better resolution. Instead, he wants to make a scene, hire an attorney and milk this. I'm sure he's booking talk shows now. I had a fired employee pull this one once. She wouldn't leave the premise, so police we called to remove her. After screaming, "drag me out of here" for over an hour, and not being cooperative, the police did drag her; stopping every few feet and asking her to stand. She thought she had a lawsuit; only to be told she caused her own drama; as this man did.

We usually fly Delta for more convenient connections and because we have so many points, it gives us occasional perks, however, this incident would not stop me at all.
Not to defend what the security person did, but in my world, if I had been told to get off the plane, I would have and I would not have turned into a maniac while doing so.

Now I must ask Mr. Google what happened on a United flight. I doubt it woud influence me to not fly on United. One occurance of anything is not what I base my decisions upon. There is always more to the story. Now on to Mr. Google.

Nope. Do love the memes though. Did you know Harambe was booked for a flight on United the day after he was killed?

I have several friends who work for United and I feel it has been handled wrong but it still is better than most airlines...

As it happens, I have flights booked in a couple of months with United and I think it would be most inconvenient if I had to change them.
1,249,513
With the huge stock decrease, I'm sure they are double-thinking not offering more money for people to disembark. And why did they load people on in the first place only to ask them to leave? United (in spite of its hub in Chicago) has been my last choice for a long time.
3,986,258

It's not been my favorite for years but if I have to would if they had a direct flight and nobody else did.
989,652
We stopped flying because of TSA (used to do 3 flying vacations a year, now we do 1) - this is just another feather in the cap of why we no longer fly if we don't have to
290,969
No, I would not stop flying UA, though I'm sure that there has been more than one occurrence, on every airline in the past, of regretable comments made and bad behavior witnessed - meaning both sides were part of the blame.
I personally rarely fly. Though there is no doubt that the comments by the CEO were very inappropriate, and he must not have thought his answer through. I have to admit that the doctor was not in the right either, and that '2 wrongs do not make a right" as they say. I would not have reacted the way he did, I can guarantee that, and I would have been shocked to see airline personnel behave the way they did. To be fair to all sides, I know that I do not know the entire story, as it will change over time. The shareholders and B of D will not be happy (an understatement) with their CEO, and back-peddling is always difficult, because it may not appear sincere. He needed to 'check his emotions' at the door. And then their was that doctor, who was the passenger . . . charming, just charming . . .
2,684,109
More people are coming forward with stories like that. There can be no excuse. United CEO needs to step down. All airlines need to abolish the"kick you off a plane for their convenience" policy.
BTW Peter, I know that you are retired USAF and retired commercial pilot!

No, but not because of the recent incident. I hate United. Total cattle call airline, and the latest incident just proves it. Virgin American when I can!
599,274
I haven't liked United for a long time. I'm withholding judgment because we don't know all the facts but I imagine this was the action of some locals and not company policy. Maybe it will impact how the airlines book their seats. Regardless, it's been fun to see all the jokes!
117,135
Definite PR disater. thin they will learn their lesson and do better. I inagine they should do something positive for all flyers - maybe free food for the next month? Free baggage check> something to get people talking positively.
Remember when everyone got food poisoning from Pat & Oscars restaurant? They gave out free for for an entire day and everyone went back.

I avoid when I can but have lots of points - have a flight with them to DC in May for NAR.
3,988,007
They are not my airline of choice anyway but if they had the most convenient flight and time, I would still use them.
1,466,207
Peter Mohylsky I've always flown United or Continental over the years. I think service has been declining on all airlines since they started charging for pillows and baggage. My last United flight was a little uncomfortable because I chose not to purchase a seat for $55 that had an extra six inches of leg space. I didn't mind until the person in front of me decided to put their seat in the fully reclined position. My nonstop flight from Washington DC to San Francisco was a bit cramped.

I'm unlikely to boycott a brand for political reasons but this particular occurrence was so horrifying that I'll wait to see how the CEO makes good on his (3rd) statement in which he promised to change policies and procedures to make up for what happened.
