I am a sole practitioner, so I can't answer that question. I would think that partnerships end for as many various reasons as there are different kinds of partnerships.

No, as in most relationships they end because of the perception of not carrying their weight.

Equal partnerships seldom work, need to have someone in charge.

I think some of the relationships fail due to a lack of similar goals or different work ethics. We have a great team and hope that we can continue to serve our clients best interests with integrity which is the foundation of my business. I will continue partner with my team as long as we are all on the same page with the most important values.

I am a sole practitioner now since my husband retired. We both worked hard and only came to and end because of Geno's health.

I would imagine it's due to a lack of clear, written agreements. You have to spell out responsibilities, commission splits, etc., and ensure everyone understands and agrees to them.

There are many reasons. That is why a termination agreement is important.

I would say yes. Too many times i have seen it. The ones that work, compliment each other in work ability and experience

Most partnerships ends because it began as friends.
This is a business not a hobby.
"Carrying their weight" relates more to emotion than work.

It would depend on the scale of the brokerage. Your usual "partnerships" are probably husband and wife and life partners and there are breakups. When I think of a "partnership" in this day and age, it's a "team" and that's much less complicated and, yes, would break up if one person felt they were carrying the other(s).

Yes I would say that's correct. Everyone I've heard of that's had a 'breakup' it's because of that or money.

No so work, it depends on the 2 individuals.

On a team you don't have to be the best at everything but you do have to put in the time so that you have some results to show.

John - I believe there are more reasons partnerships fail than reasons they stay together, and obviously if someone feels their partner is not carrying their weight, that is one reason why the partnership will end.

Yes...been there, done that and left the one behind that wasn't pulling her weight!

That is generally the reason. Funny thing is that both usually feel that way.

Oh yes, I think that would be the reason. I've never partnered with anyone, but people who have, most often say they're doing most of the work while the other one is there when the check arrives.
