Best to convince them to price right from the start, once the buyers are soured it is tough to bring them back.
For me, it is best to negotiate price reductions during listing appointment, so they are prepared to have this conversation if the listing is overpriced or not showing well.
Do you mean how to best market the property after a price reduction? The change in my local MLS usually works very well for me in this situation.
"Improved Price" has been one of my favorites. Could work for either up or down. Afterall, improved is in the eye of the beholder.

Facts! Clearly show the facts of what's happening in the neighborhood. Charts usually work well for most sellers.
Present the data and explain the risks of not reducing the price to be competitive with the market.

Send updates on what's been selling and why. Showing feedback. Real estate news. All geared to showing that the price may be too high if that's the issue.

A CMA that shows the market has changed! Not likely at this time. More likely not originally correctly priced!

For many agents PRICE REDUCTION is their ONLY marketing strategy. They rely on NLP and manipulation to compel the seller to accept responsibility and comply.
These agent couldn't effectively sell cool spring water to a dehydrated desert wanderer.
I would use the same method, the same process that compels a man to check the GPS/MAP.
Sometimes it is because they are running out of gas or they finally recognize they are lost. These are closely related but a skilled person knows which button to actuate.
