We've painted them with chalkboard paint, then do colorful chalk messages and used them for open houses etc.

Can we say target practice?  They make good targets when sighting in a weapon

I have them cut down into Rider size and have them rewrapped with Text # codes on them.  About 1/2 the price of new.

I've been going through this since my company underwent a branding change. Old signs have gone to a sign company to have them overlaid with new logo and design. That way they don't end up in a landfill and they are recycled in a way that I can use them again.

I like Kathleen Luiten idea.  Can then be used for yards sales, estate sales, etc. for our clients. 

The chalkboard paint idea is great. If not used for real estate, maybe find someone crafty that could use them to repurpose for art or chalkboards or something and sell at a farmers market or bazaar.

Sell them to someone in the previous brokerage. You can get plastic coverage with adhesive to cover your name with theirs.

Other than recycling them, not much!

We have tried to re-use them by removing the decal and placing a new decal on... It was a lot more work than was worth it - however, we did find a use for the metal ones - removed the decals, and put rental decals and Open House decals on them

For the poly ones - my husband cuts them up and uses them for templates in the shop and Pellet practice in the back yard

If they are another agents give them back, white flag and amnesty so you can get some of your own brand back. The classic signs are 40+ a pop. If they are your signs but new logo or franchise happened, whatever. Then replace sign panels with the powder coated metal or glorified cardboard cordex. If you make them into yard sale signs, watch out. Other silent salesman of yours speared in the lawns will be rudely approached by a white or black colored van with two burly guys jumping out and kidnapping them in the night for the same purpose.

Let me know, cause I've have at least 40 old sign panels (some never used !).

I white washed mine and loan them to my clients for gaage sales.  All are printed already

Our Sign Frames are changeable and we can remove the inside Panel and replace with a new panel.  That way you only have to pay for the panel.

Recycle or give to another agent who is still at the brokerage.

I have recycled them or sold to other agents.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, all part of my motto...

Buy new inserts to go in the frames, and if you dont want to then just send them to me and I will give them a new life.

Firewood

I have recycled some and others I give way. They make a great block in the smaller irrigation ditches. 

I've seen people cover them with thick paper and use them for garage sale signs.

There a re a lot of mixed Your and Their in the question, I'm confused about who's old signs they are.

If it's another agent's and you have the listing, I'd call them and have them outside your office for pickup.

If you changed companies from A to B and have all those old A signs, I'd go with the covering them up and using them for open houses, garage sales or to have a special message on them in the backyard like "If you were sitting here, you'd be admiring the view" or "If you bought this home, you'd be home now"

I throw out the tattered plastic and paint over the old wood signs and reuse them...

Garage sale signs,

they can be relettered for some other task like an open house event.... or just a directional....

Until I went to RE/MAX those "traditional" companies would "lend" me signs... so I don't have any but RE/MAX signs that I own and I use them. But I think you can have old signs over-laid...it's just a question of cost. Me, I'd toss them. I have enough stuff in my garage.

I would just give them to someone at the old brokerage.

We have re-skinned then with new signage  3 or 4 time and they still look good. We are in a big office and signage can be a problem.

I've used them for several things. Gave a few to local businesses, and they painted the days and hours they are open on them. Have patched roofs with a few. patch a couple horse stalls and run in sheds with a few. Made roofs for bird houses out of some of them.

Great question. I always have many sings but never could find a way to reuse  old ones. I called many local vendors and the quote for reprinting them is almost the same as for ordering new ones. 

So much depends on the sign material-it's possible to paint over some, it's also possible to use stickers.

I've given them to those that remain there. So much easier and less expensive to change a name & number plus they appreciate the gesture. Leaving a brokerage doesn't always mean leaving a friendship!

many print companies can reuse them and make your new signs with them.

I picked up a bunch of Shoot-N-C stickers, and will get them out once the weather warms a bit!
