Christina,
If you have had an encounter with a Federal office, you would be surprised at how many people are doing the job of one person. We once sat in an office watching 2 people deliver paper clips to those at desks. One pushed a cart, and the other would pick up a box and drop it off...LOL A

I'm all for it! If you've ever been in a government office there are way too many people doing the job of one person!! Just like Ron and Alexandra Seigel comment. It's ridiculous!

It's funny how an outsider can come in and do in a matter of minutes what the career political types have always said could not be done. Reminds me of the movie Dave with Kevin Kline, who was basically a body double that was brought in to temporarily replace the president who had become incapacitated. He wasn't supposed to do anything, but took it upon himself to balance the budget. He did a little "back of the napkin" math and did it in a few minutes at the big table and it was done. Here's the link to the scene: Click here
A freeze to new hiring and wage increases is a backdoor way to reduce headcount, since it will cause some Federal employees to leave.

I love the potential of it --- everyone has always said tax cuts would cost too much, and I've always argued if someone took the time to figure out where waste is coming from, and remove it, we would all benefit. I think it's about time we find out. I hope that the days of massive overspending are over.

I am always confused when the Federal government threatens to shut down when a budget is not passed. They only require "essential employees" to go to work. WTH. Why are they employed if they aren't "essential"? Then, of course when the budget is passed they pay EVERYONE back pay, whether they worked or not. Go figure.

If I became President I would do the same thing. Freeze everything until I know or learn what's going on, since I don't know this job. Time will tell, and I'm willing to see what changes are to come and more importantly, how it affects me. Sort of reminds me of when I submit a package to underwriting and the next day agents call me and ask "Are we cleared to close?" He's only been there one working day. Give him time.

Nothing against individuals that work for the government, but we are bloated at every level! A hiring freeze is just the start. We need to start cutting positions and even removing certain agencies. Stop federal funding of ridiculous studies that have nothing to do with our national security. Stop subsidizing oil, farms, or anything! All businesses should stand on their own or go away. Stop sending money to foreign countries that goes to the terrorists and crooked politicians and instead let the private churches and organizations take care of people at the local level.
Oh, if I were king for a day!

It could be good. Lets see what jobs are needed, what is not and let them adjust how a private company would do it

The outgoing administration in the last six weeks has been on a hiring binge (except the military) since the November election, so actually the federal government has GROWN since the election!
Unless President Trump does like Reagan and makes the hiring freeze RETROACTIVE to the November 8th election (which survived court challenges) the net impact is a hiring SURGE of federal employees.
Sleep tight tonight America; your bureaucracy has EXPANDED.

Its a start but the tenured government employee who is awaiting the retirement eligibility is the greater problem - not a motivated new employee!

I have not seen anything in the news about a federal hiring freeze in our great nation.
1,634,909
I'm waiting to see the results of it; in this case they are trying to stop the bleeding but not sure the work load on those that are in won't become overwhelming and then quality suffers. Well, is there really quality government work?
3,988,144
We have had these before and as long as it is used to assess the situation and is not long term across the board I am okay with it. I know there is government waste and there needs some tightening up.
