There are parts of town I wouldn't be caught dead in because if I went there I would be dead. As for a farm... why would I farm a neighborhood I was afraid of? My precautions? Always be aware, always have an exit strategy, and don't go where I don't "belong."

There are some areas within our market that require EXTRA vigilence.  I use the tactics for personal safety that we're all reminded of & will not put my safety ahead of a sale (i.e. will refer as neeeded).  As a reminder to us all:  NO AREA is absolutely safe.  WE ALL live & work in a potentially dangerous area.  Our complacency can make us victims... Don't give them the opportunity folks!

What Nina Hollander said.  There was an area of LA that was semi gentrifying at the time, and we had a listing right accross from a very popular and hip restaurant.  On either side it was hinky, so I showed it with our Tai Kwan Do 3rd degree black belt...LOL.

What is really scary to me is the new emerging trend in websites of brokers who have these personal profiles of their agents, including their pets, children,personal photos of spouses, etc...foods they like.  I worry for their safety even though they farm in good areas...The cyber village can easily target these people!

There is no place which is unaffected by potential of crime and or physical harm. The awareness should be everywhere you go and whatever you may do. It's sad to say this feeling will not dissipate any time soon.

I don't know if afraid is the right word but I am more cautious. I take someone with me or my husband goes.

Afraid? There is some areas that I take extra caution in and only travel in during daylight hours.

Most likely there are areas I might skip in Chicago, but there is so much to cover, never gave it a thought!

I do not farm the areas i am not comfortable in. Most often it is multi family homes in the center city and investors buying the, Day time showings and accompanied. There is not really any area I would not go to, but always better to be cautious.

Know thy area before entering

Lucky to live where no bad neighborhoods, gangs, drive by shootiings. But taking a listing like a couple hundred acre wood lot in an unorganized township, making sure lots of gas, leaving word where I am going to be and a trail of bread crumbs makes sense. I don't live in that kind of town.... we can travel on any street and there is no danger....

There are some areas I will not go to ... period.  I do not feel safe and there are no precautions I can take that will change that.

The scariest moments of my real estate career have happened at open houses in upper middle class neighborhoods.  So I think we should take precautions, and be aware of our surroundings WHEREVER we go.

Bad things happen in good neighborhoods.  I was just watching a Forensic Files program yesterday about a REALTOR® that was murdered in an upscale development while doing a showing.   NEVER NEVER go alone to meet a stranger and NEVER do an Open House alone.  

And, yes, there were parts of town I avoided doing business in.

Even though I'm in Connecticut there are scary places here too. I've taken listings in some questionable areas. I will only go there in the daytime & I am in & out when I do!

In my farm area..no I do not take any precautions. I don't go to all areas of town..I specialize and keep very busy so no need to go out of my safe environment.

Anytime I feel uncomfortable, I take my husband. 

No.  There aren't any areas I'm not willing to go to.

      Tallahassee has the highest murder rate per capita of any city in Florida. including Miami, Tampa, Jacksonville, Orlando.   Democrat mayor, Democrat city commissioners, the usual.  

     Those murders occur in just a few neighborhoods.   The rare occasions that I go into those areas, I am armed and ready.

Our town is pretty safe.  However, the first time meeting a new client needs precautions. Meeting them in a public location - better yet our office - where they can be introduced to several people helps with any potential issues in showing them property.

Never been afraid but if I have a problem I may pack in the area.

DC proper has become so gentrified that there is almost no such thing as an uber-scary neighborhood anymore.  And there is a security camera every few feet.  It's safer, but every time you scratch your nose, lots of people will see it.

Not in the areas I generally service. But I am always vigilant!
