I am from the Metro-Atlanta area. First, it is a wide area geographically. Most folks who live within 30 to 45 miles of Atlanta, when asked where they live, respond: Atlanta. Even if you are reffering to Atlanta proper, there are many neighborhoods. Outside of Atlanta there are hundreds of choices.
Second, what kind of property are you looking for? Personal residence, multi-family, etc.
What is the budget?
Randall, your question, like Atlanta itself, is too broad to answer as is.
There will be many good choices matching your criteria once you formulate it. As suggested by others, contact an agent who can help you determine what you are trying to accomplish, then they can help you narrow down the list of potential areas.
Good luck on your search!

You, as an investor, have the advantage of being close to Atlanta in Dallas, Paulding County, GA.
Some folks call from Asia or California or Australia ...
I wrote a post to begin to explain what is known as "ATLANTA" now. Atlanta Buyer Orientation: Greater Atlanta Metro Area.
Perhaps that will explain about the distances involved to people from other areas. Help them to understand why you would ask that question when already inside "Atlanta" well, the Greater Metro Area anyway!
All the best - Lynn

That's a pretty general question and it will depend on your needs, budget and other fctors. I would talk with some Atlanta agents - Lynn B. Friedman comes to mind, as does Jim Crawford . There are others here, too

I am a resident of the Atlanta area since 1992 and have sold homes here since that time. Atlanta Metro area is vast and it all depends on what you are looking for, however with that said... I still feel the North Metro Atlanta area offers the best value for property in the region. That is based upon years of observations, closed business, buyer requests and listening to their needs and views. Over the years in Atlanta real estate we've seen consistant appreciation of property values and quality of life correllated with proximity to the best schools, shopping, dining, fine arts and access to mass transit and roads. Based upon that criteria, the areas to live and own homes in Atlanta...areas such as Alpharetta, Windward, Cumming GA, Johns Creek, Milton GA are highly sought after by buyers every day! That is where most of our calls, requests and Internet hits confirm. Buyers are the ones that determine the best choices for living in my opinion. For more information about buying or selling real estate in the Atlanta area feel free to contact me!

At the corner of that one street and that other one... can't remember the names but you know the ones.
Seriously though, that requires research based upon what you are trying to accomplish.

Obviously I can't speak for Atlanta, but I take people to about 10 different areas or if they prefer, I give them a map and explain what the pros and cons are. But what I found most is the way they feel in the area. Some areas a customer feels more comfortable. I guiide...you decide!
