I would take them at their word that they do not want to be called.  At all. I truly believe all this cold-calling has gotten completely out of hand and people simply do not want to be bothered.

Dorie Dillard - it should be applicable to that one agent only.

Though I don't worry - as I do not call people who I don't know. No cold calling and no door knocking.

On occasion, we have been written notification when this has occurred within our brokerage.  Maybe since we are NRT there is more scrutiny or visibility due to our market presence.

I think it does.  And so many people are on the state and federal do-not-call lists that we have to be really careful about calling.

It may be your responsibility to find out what your agent may have done to offend.  Perhaps if the call is prefaced with this the conversation can begin.

Depends on why. Did they tell that agent that they did not want to receive calls anymore? Or did they tell that agent they don't want to receive calls from them anymore? I would imagine they probably don't want to hear from anybody.

It does apply to all agents. A request to be placed on your company's do-not-call list is binding on all agents in the company, and it overrides any of the permitted exemptions.

If you are asking as a managing Broker regarding one of your staff and you felt it important to address a problem rather than leave it out there, you could always put the person on the do not call list and send a brief letter that you sign personally (vs typed signature, so often used these days), inviting the person to contact you to resolve any lack of service or problem.  I would also confirm in the letter that he/she has been placed on the Do Not Call list, as requested.

Wait, doesn't the person have to go on the "do not call list" and EVERYONE has to check first before making any sales call? That's the normal route. But I can see where someone calls the agency specifically and asks not to be called and that has to be respected but that's not the same as the "do not call list", right?

Many times this happens when an expired listing is being called and the homeowner is receiving numerous calls from one company. If that is the case then it applies to all agents. If this is one agent that this homeowner finds irritating ,then, just the one agent and a notice should go out to all agents to look at the do not call list.

It seems you answered a different question Dorie.  If they asked to be placed on the company's list, then yes it would apply.  If they asked to be placed on a particular agent's list, I do not see how it would impact other agents at the company.  Of course, that is a "letter vs. spirit" of the request debate.

Interesting. I would have said it only referred to that one agent, since it's an independent contractor who just happens to be affiliated with that company. In a company with multiple branches and thousands of agents, it would be tricky to make sure no one contacted that person.

My thought would be a 'no' to just that '1' agent.  Interesting question though Dorie Dillard!  And I guess it would depend on why that person was asked to stop calling - were they being too pushy, was the timing in that potential client's life wrong, was something said that offended someone, etc.  There's got to be a real reason why, and more to that backstory than is being shared.
