the key to success with ANY open house event is to market it across the board....hit the best site and provide those posts well in advance....not the day before the open house....

Quantity is nice and you have to give credit to buyers who are out and about on a rainy day.   I've had some good results on rainy days especially when the home is new to the market -- in our area that drives traffic to an open house.  

Sorry... don't hold open houses rain or shine! Have never found them to be well attended in our area.

Buyers don't come when it is raining because they don't want to get wet.  Buyers don't come when the weather is good because they want to do things other than look at houses. Buyers don't come when the Redskins are playing because the Redskins are playing . Buyers don't come when the Redskins aren't playing because they are doing other things.  Buyers don't come on Mothers' Day, on Fathers' Day, when the weather is hot, when the weather is cold.... but buyers actually come on all those days.... I don't think external circumstances really matter

Pack up ... go home to your family. Watch some football together.

Are you sure it's due to the rain and not football? It's hard to know for sure which is the deterrent.

Real buyers will come look in any weather, the lookie loo's will stay home in the rain

I hardly do open houses but when I do I found that rain equals slow open house traffic.

I usually try not to have an open house on a rainy day, will save the flooring.

I"m in SoCal and rains are extremely rare here. 

I tend to cancel on rainy days.  Makes the house too dirty.

Open the garage door so the visitor has a dry place.

Stay in the garage so when they approach the house you can wave them in.

Make sure the visitor understands 'Neither rain nor sleet nor gloom of night' will keep YOU from doing what ever is needed to SELL THEIR HOUSE.

I only do one hour Impromptu Open Houses. If I already have a showing...no mater what the weather or the time or day.

I have had anywhere from 0 to 15 show up

Weather is a deterrent, especially for tire-kickers; the serious ones will come.

I'm with Barbara Todaro ..we marketed heavily the open house my daughter held yesterday and it rained all day and she had 10 very interested prospects. Those out in the rain are serious not looky loos!

If no marketing was done, you might be a lonely guy! Location could play a part!

Depends on what you did to promote the open house.  If you show up and stick a sign in the front you probably will not get much traffic.  Also sometimes it is hard to compete with the NFL.

Rainy days can produce some serious buyers just like any other day. I have had open houses on beautifully sunny days that had nobody show up.

I've never had good turn-out on rainy days - ever!

Sorry to sound like a Real Estate snob Steve but I rarely do opens. I let newer agents do them for me and they ask for them, rain or shine.

One of my best Open Houses was on a day when we had freezing rain, and the one couple who came by bought the place.  

I always arrive at hope houses prepared to make the most of those slow periods generating a bit of buz with some calls, emails and social media.

Some people are still looking even if it is raining.

I quit doing them for the most part.  If i do one I take a lot of work to catch up on,.

Even if it was bright, sunny and 80 degrees...I wouldn't have anyone turnout at an open house in my area. 

Real Estate is local.  I've done opens in pouring down rain and people showed up. 

   I don't do Opens anymore, but back in the day I did some when it was raining.  Unless it was a downpour, people still came.
