As often as my phone stops working....completely coincidentally (I'm sure) this is usually the exact time my contract expires or I pay a phone off in my billing.  Pretty sure the newer IPhones come with a 2 year self-destruct feature

Every time the police confiscates mine for evidence. This normally happens every 18 months, give or take.

I usually hold on to mine til it is no longer functional.  I'm not impressed with the newest bells & whistles.  I went from my iphone 4 to the 6 and missed everything in between!

Usually not that often but I had a Galaxy 6 and they offered to buy back my phone if I took a 7 and it was only extending my phone contract with Verizon.

I think that's nuts & just helping churn MAC profits. Mine is a year now & it's still great. If they offer me a deal, I'll jump ship but not before that.

I really am happy with my Samsung 6.

I just saw a video where someone had a frickin' flip phone & thought what museum did they steal that thing from!

I update about every year.   WE need to be up to date with our electronics at all time....I take my old phone and recycle it to other members of the family.

Mine has to die or be close to it before I replace it. I hate moving stuff to a new phone!

I get a new one every 2 to 3 years unless it is slowing down really fast.

Paul, I'm pretty much a buy and hold until it no longer serves its purpose well.  I rarely need the latest bells and whistles to be happy.  Right now we both have Samsung Galaxy S4s from about 2.5 years ago.  Now the phone companies charge full price for the phones, I have even less incentive to spend $500-800 or more per phone just to stay "current".  Bill

I usually upgrade when I get the notice I am eligible and no, my phone is not worn out. i just want the new features.

I don't replace mine until I have to. I had my last one for 2.5 years. When I went into the Sprint store, they all got a kick out of my Motorola phone. I guess that company doesn't make phones anymore. But you know I had it in a good Otter Box case and everyone thought it was a newer Samsung. 

I loved that old phone. It did everything I needed. It was also a great phone. I now have the latest and greatest Samsung S7, and it's not as good of a phone. It takes the best pictures. Probably better than my wonderful Canon camera, but I really want a good phone. 

I have had iPhones, so the only one that's needed replacement was one that I dropped into the toilet.

I've only changed phones when I've changed service providers.

I don't use much of my cell phones abiblity so I replace it when I break it

When it's dead, or on life support.

We have gone with the flow, every two years.  And we have stayed with Apple because you can trade in the phone also.  So the price is discounted further so to speak  We have a dear friend who changes every time a new model comes out, he loves tech...A

It has been more than two years, mine is still working, but a few others on my plan are ready for new phones.

Apple product at some point holds up & has the basics. I put my phone in a otter box thus making it last even longer. No need to update what works

If the iPhone 5s had not died it would still be here but love the battery life of the 6s

Have an iPhone 6 and see no compelling reason to be in a hurry.

Hi Paul - I usually wait until there's some new feature I can't live without - the big iPhone was a real eyesaver for me, and I'm going to be happy with it for a while yet. I'm much quicker to upgrade my iPad because that's what I use most often.

Every 4 or so years.  Either when I switch providers or when my existing one gets too outdated (even after putting Cyanogenmod on for newer updates).

I only replace my phone when I have no other choice. I use my phone as a phone. I like that I can get email and use it as a camera, but I don't care about the bells and whistles!

I've had the same phone for almost 8 years now - works just fine and since it has no apps, I can't be hacked LOL

I go with the every two year rule why I do not know why

I get about 5-7 years out of my cell telephones. I hate contracts so love the piece of mind to not be stuck.

Not a fan of replacing my cell phone unless necessary. It has to quit working for me to move on!

That is what i do as well, i get the new model and pass down my old to family. 

When it no longer stays charged for a long time and if there is a new, better version.

Typically when they no longer work.  

Mine gets replaced when it can no longer do the job. I had my Treo for about 6 years, but it was held together by tape and able to keep up. My iPhone 4s died on me, and now my iPhone 6 is humming along. I've had it for 1.5 years. I'll probably keep it until it stops performing at optimal level,

I replace on an as needed basis.

I went from the iPhone 4 to the 6S!   My screen was cracked and I wanted larger (for my old eyes)!!  

Many people overseas one carries two phones. 1 business ; 1 personal.

I saw three people sat on a couch with 6 phones on the table. 

The cost of phone is coming down....

I tend to do it every two to three years.  Mostly, because they start having some issues.

I'm a IPhone user and only change when they come up with a new number, not a upgrade on the current number.   I'll wait for the end of my two year contract at a minimum but only change if the phone is outdated or damaged.
