It isn't something that is done up here.  I've heard of only 1 inspector who can test if asked and he's like the Maytag Repair Man!

Nope, in the counties I worked in ( los angeles basin) , no one ever mentioned about radon testing. Definitely it is not mandatory and very rare.

It use to be but there was a positive for every 1000 tests and some of those were false positives. In eastern Washington it is a different story however.

Hi Lise - We've had mandatory radon information disclosure for many years and testing is very common. It's not mandatory yet, but it's certainly coming - so we always recommend that our buyers pay for the test - since the sellers will generally remediate if necessary since it's a health hazard, it's something our buyers won't have to face down the road when it does become required.

It is strongly encouraged and most buyers do it. We have ledge, which is known to harbor radon, so it's a good idea.
