Stop Pretending And Manipulating...SPAM

Spam is manufactured from an otherwise worthless meat by-product; hence the term.

You've only to look at Monty Python for the answer!

It is a perfect acronym for a totally unwanted piece of email that you cannot swallow or digest. 

Because both are un wanted?

I've always been told it was because of the SPAM skit by Monty Python.

Not sure exactly but the Can-Spam Act of 2003 stands for - Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act.

It must be an acronym for something - and the "A" is for "annoying!

Because it's unwanted, just like the "meat" SPAM? I think of them as short, pointless, annoying messages. Seems to me that's one of the acronyms I have seen

Always enjoy the spam skit on Monty Python, but I can do without the product and the internet spam.

I just remember canned meat as a kid and it was nasty; thus...

I have no idea, but Internet spam and canned meat claim to be something they aren't.

The term spam really caught on in the 1990s when two US lawyers got hold of a script which allowed them to send an ad out promoting their services to thousands of newsgroups at once.

Whatever the true origin of spam, whoever invented the ability to send junk mail over the internet has a lot to answer for.
