I hear the word charm and I cringe.  I think of charming a snake into a trance. I am simply my true authentic self.  If that resonates with people ... fine. If not, no sense in trying to charm others and be someone I am not to win business.  Not my style.  

All through out history 'ugly ladies' were said to have great charm because they didn't have fab looks. Take Cleopatra for example, she had a honker for a nose but seduced a few leaders in her day.

Charming people make you feel good.

Be genuinely Nice.

While your shared dynamics deserve much respect, I find being who you really are is the best share in the world. One of kind always commands value

I dont set out to charm people.  I try just to be me!

Charm is much more valuable! I'm not able to win business with beauty, so I must charm them with technique.

I'm simply myself... no pretensions and people respond to that. Inherently, I'm suspicious of people who ooze charm... seems very phony to me. And thank heavens I'm already beautiful!  As for my business, I rely on my knowledge, my expertise, my ability to communicate, and how I treat my clients.

I have not relied on charm in my business.

"Charming" means different things to different people. So does "beauty". I like to use skill, grace and respect in my professional relationships.

I just had a buyer tell me she was going to charm the underwriter. I don't understand how she is in contact with the underwriter.

Etymologically, the words "beauty" and "charm" are actually synonyms of one another.  Used in this sentence or context, the question is raised, is it better to be "beautiful/delightful/charming" on the outside (visible beauty) or on the side (charming).  Exterior beauty changes and often fades, while interior beauty is enhanced by age, wisdom and experience.  Ergo, the statement is true.

One only needs to get older to learn to transfer the charm or attractiveness from the exterior to the interior and most do it with such ease that they barely even notice they have accomplished the feat.  Those of us who grew up with poorer self images, like the girl in Phobe Snow's "17" song, attained "charming" and "funny" out of necessity and we know no other means to operate in life.  Those who started life popular or beautiful  switch over to inner charm far later in life.

We all use inner charm whether we're willing to admit it or not.  One's "authentic self" is a learned personality and the amalgamation of years of trial and error in discovering what is or is not socially acceptable within specific circles.  Depending on one's professional, we all learn habits that make us more acceptable, more desirable, more hire-able by clients.

So, if you are successful as a salesperson, you have mastered char and inner beauty.  Be proud, it is not a negative attribute--on the contrary, it makes one notable and prominent.

I do think one can go further in life with charm as opposed to beauty, since one is 'in the eye of the beholder', while to me, the other is how you act and your personal style Jack Lewitz.  Manners, playing fair, and having ethics and standards is all part of one's charm to me, and so is that smile that comes from their eyes!

Charm and IS definitely more important than beauty.   I can't say I'm particularly beautiful or charming but I am knowledgeable and have a sense of humor and compassion.  If I had to count on my "beauty", I'd have been in the free food line a long time ago.

I never went to charm school, but I did eat some "Lucky Charms" cereal as a kid.  I think I'm safe!

Authenticity matters.  

Just be yourself.

I prefer wisdom, knowledge, experience, a sense of humor and empathy over beauty and charm. Although charm is a good sales skill.

When I was young all I had was charm and enthusiasm. It opened doors but now I get respect and the doors are already wide open.

Charm in my business is my sense of humor.  I lighten things up with it often.

People do not like ''beauty'' since it means often: perfect. Charm is more acceptable, since everyone can be charming.
