Adam Feinberg - even if it is after late evening, no harm checking - perhaps by text.
If they are online and connecting with you - and you are available, why not? Have your scripts ready for calling so late, though..
I like NY Lotto slogan - 'Hey, You Never Know'!

When did the lead come in? If it came in late in the evening, then I would respond when I received it.
If you think calling might be inappropriate then email or text and ask permission to call.

If you think it's late, just send a text and let them know it's OK to call you until whatever time works for you.

U cut off around 8pm or so, unless they registered at 8-9pm - however, you have to pay attention to the area code!

Send a text or email when the hour is late. You need to ask them how late you can call.

It would be unlikely for me to call before 9am or after 9pm although I will send an email thanking them for their inquiry and letting them know where they can reach me(phone/text/email).

Generally, I'll call someone back up until 8:00 PM, but I will text someone up until 9:00 PM. Also, I always make a point to look at the time that the inquiry came in. If the inquiry came in at 8:30 and I see it at 8:35, I'll go ahead and call. One other tool that I use that is useful for calling clients back late at night is the free Slydial app which allows you to call a number and get sent directly to voice mail.

I will call before 8pm if I just got the e-mail. But an e-mail back at any time is fine

Never after 8:00 PM. Leads to peace and harmony. I'm not Store 24! Neither are many lawyers, or CPA's. My voice mails says we return calls during business hours.

I just got a call from a new lead. First thing she asked me was " Is it too late to call"? Normally I would say 8:00 , but if I'm awake and some calls up to 9, I'll answer.

I've texted new clients at 10:00 pm and later, just depending on the night. I don't think this is a cut and dry number or business.

I think 9 pm is OK until you learn otherwise (if they are in the same time zone as you or earlier). But emailing is a different matter. Perhaps texting, too

9 pm their timezone is probably as late as reasonable unless they have indicated that a later time is acceptable.

I wouldn't call after 9pm. In fact, since I start working somewhere around 5:30am or so, by 8pm, I'm DONE!

I would think you should cease your calls sometime between 8:00 and 9:00PM. If you have an inclination of a lead's lifestyle there is room for a judgment call. I personally would not have a problem with a call at 8:30 or 9:00 during the week. I might not answer it every time, but for me that is not a problem. Obviously some older leads are less likely to appreciate that. And 9:00PM is running a risk if you have anyone that works at an early hour. Even if the average person goes to be at let's say 11:00PM, how many go to bed at 8:00 or 9:00? A good number that you might not want to annoy.

That would be up to you but in my Midwest area I would not. I would say 8pm is latest. I don't like to call anybody about business after 7 unless it's about an offer.

My general rule of thumb is no calls after 9pm. However, if the inquiry comes in late at night via email, it's safe to assume that they are up and receptive.

I let the client make the call on what time is too late to call them depending on what it is. But I don't make initial call backs after 7 p.m. (because I am on ME time)

I don't make phone calls and don't take phone calls at pm (unless it's a family emergency). I grew up in NYC and lived many years there and most everyone followed a rule that you didn't call before 9am or after 7:30pm. Why not text those people and tell them you'll be back to them in the morning.
I was a residential broker in NYC for 5+ years with Halstead and knew quite a few rental agents around town... never heard of one showing property after 10pm. Most cut it off by 8pm.

If is an email, I answer as soon as I can. I received a text and email with an offer today around 10:30pm. I confirmed both immediately.
I'm not as prompt with very early emails/texts. 4-5 am is not easy. But if I need to, I adjust to that time as well.

Not sure about the practices in NYC (big city folk), where I live in the suburbs, I wouldn't call later than 8pm.

Here we do not call at or after 9 p.m., even with snowbirds who live in other states with a time difference Adam Feinberg. And this call would not be to an existing client, but a new lead, so I'm thinking 9 p.m. would be too late, though as you wrote, NYC might be different.
