Wait until your Father gets home and he'll tell ya. Now sit in the corner and think about what you did.

Tiedowns to keep the bookshelves standing up?
Or of those vibrating belts that you see in the old movies.

Michael Jacobs has such a good sense of humor!
I sure wouldn't want to strapped with those 2 (or 3 if the water heater is big enough) earthstraps used to secure the water heater to the wall and prevent it from moving in an earthquake

I'm going with what Jeff Dowler says.
I had someone tell me here in Q&A that northern IL (Chicagoish) is in an earthquake zone lol. Must have been another state that started with a vowel.

An earthquake strap is required here in Southern California. This secures the water heater in case of an earthquake. It is in our contract and can be done by the seller or buyer. There are two secure staps and there needs to be no movement. Most handymen can put them on the home and the home inspector will know if it is done properly.

When you live in earthquake country and near a major fault you better believe we know what this is

We don't get too many earthquakes in Colorado, but I imagine it's something to hold something else in place during an earthquake.

A metal strap used to secure gas hot water heaters to the framing or foundation of a house. Intended to reduce the chances of having the water heater fall over in an earthquake and causing a gas leak.
