A referral from a past client is typically the most solid lead.  Online leads become a numbers game -- some work out, some don't.  All are welcome.

Referrals either from other agents or present/past clients are the most solid and likely to close. Good online leads  seems to be few and far between. But I did close 3 last year

Past client referrals or referrals from freinds & family are usually "come list me" appointments, where they are pre-disposed to using you.  Those are by far the best!  I have had a few online leads prove to be real people, but so far none have worked out.

Referrals tend to be much stronger than on-line leads.  Even good on-line leads.  Of course, the definition of good on-line leads is open to debate.

the majority of our referral business is from past clients....referral business trumps everything as far as being a reflection of the quality of how we do business and the degree of appreciation.....

postcards deliver new listing leads to us.... people who do not know us, but they soon will!!!!!!!!!!!! and they, too, will eventually be a source of future business....

Leads from friends, clients, other agents are far superior to online leads.   I do get good online leads from time to time, but many of them are window shopping, or emailing several other agents.

I do 90% of my business by referral.  Rarely does someone introduced to me by a former client not end up working with me.  Online leads take much more effort and the odds they will become a closed client are much lower.

Online leads can turn into good leads. Often they are your listings but people contact you online.

Not all referrals turn into conversion.
