I didn't think they even made black and white drivers' licenses anymore.  It's just a routine form of identity like you used to need to pay for something in a store with a check.  It's customary to ask for photo ID when you want to rent a property.

We require a color photo id too when we take a rental application. If the applicant isn't willing to take this step we aren't willing to look at their application.

Totally agree with Kenneth J. Jones's reply below.  Harder to tamper with a colored copy of an ID, because it could be more obvious, than if someone were to submit a black and white copy Guillermo Sanjurjo.

it is "official" it could also be a birth cert. or a passport is good. something to prove who they are.  a DL isnt required per se , just easier

So  the landlord can give an accurate physical to the landlord's attorney's process server should the landlord need to serve the tenants
