Yes I have smelled the ground as it gets turned up and I love that smell. Its up there with fresh cut grass and firewood being cut.

You had me except for the diesel fumes.
Dirt does smell - I remember when I was a kid & the farmers started planting in the spring you could smell it. Same in the fall when they did the till under.

I like the freshness that welcomes the start of a day, interesting architecture, a nice Malbec and putting together real estate transactions(I wonder why I never get a response to those Craigslist personal ads....)

I developed and built dozens of new communities and commercial buildings. The sights, smells and sounds of the construction site, whether it was a single home, a master planned community or a high-rise, never got old. My visits to new sites now are limited to field trip with my college CM and architecture students. I miss working on the sites every time I visit one.

How totally funny you asked this today. Seriously a few hours ago I was walking my dogs with my husband and around the corner they are clearing to build and I said to him... I love that smell of turned top soil. So yes, and I like it too

Who needs the smell roses and perfume and steaks on a grill?
I prefer the smell of fresh-turned dirt!

I had the same feeling when I worked at JFK airport watching it comes alive in the early mornings.

Whatever makes you happy. My grandparents love turning the ground to plant their crops in spring. My parents had a 50 X 50 garden for 60 years. My husband is very proud of his vegetable garden every year. My garden has flowers.

my answer is YES....and I always loved it.... I was addicted to it....and I think I'll always have that enthusiasm for developing land and building the end product.... I love what you do for a living, Mike....and I know you do it better than others in your area.... you radiate that....

My favorite moments: the beginning ( so many hopes and expectations) and the finish line( Yes! we did it!).

Since many of our new developments were farmland the ground has the smell of manure and organic crops.
