I did when the kids were young, they were trained very well and knew that silence when I was on the phone would be rewarded.   And making noise while I was on the phone was going to lead to no rewards.

And a couple of 6 hour VCR tapes with Sesame St also helped to keep them busy.

Even without a young child you might find some days are hectic, Emily Wojtowicz. Remember you can take a half hour here and an hour there "out of the office". Schedule your personal life (time with family, exercise, etc.) like your other appointments

Congratulations Emily Wojtowicz on your first closing and your 2nd coming up soon!  I don't have small children but I do have an 88 year old Mother who needs the same care and attention

My schedule is my most important tool in my entire arsenal:  I work with these priorities always

  1. Faith,

  2. Family,

  3. Career

You'll find what works best for you and your family -  good luck as your career progresses.

kidding of course. I've been doing it for the past year. It's difficult, but I have a lot of support from family. I'm a single dad, so my mom helps with them a lot. Phone calls are near impossible. Difficult to find isolation where you can at least focus because its not like you can just leave them unattended. It's a struggle, but it can be done if you focus on your WHY

We don't have small children all the time, but do have them 6 weeks during the summer.  I find that getting up early and taking care of email to be the best way to start the day.  Then while they are eating breakfast I take care of returning phone calls from the night before.  It is a challenge to balance the time, but I can be done if you develop a schedule for both yourself and your child.

Hi Emily, I've got a six month old cutie and a start-up brokerage. These things are definitely in conflict! I've found my own routine, but it was not easy.

I take my daughter to the park first thing in the morning. This makes me feel like we've spent some quality time outside and that I did not put her needs second.  Its a small thing, but I found it makes me feel more balanced.

It is not easy. My kids are older now, but since they were always my priority, as a single mom with no backup I always struggled to find a balance between their needs and wants and job.

Often I hear realtors calling from home with babies crying.  Some bring baby to show homes, a true reflectance of what is like to be a realtor, mom, wife, etc..

Yours is a reality check.

Realtor with Century 21 North Shore!

I have a 3 year old and a 9 year old, and my husband is also self employed so our schedule is crazy! I have a set schedule for dinnertime, breakfast, lunch and kids activities (dance/classes/showers/homework) So we both know if one is working the other knows what to do, also for when my mom watches them, the older knows the expectation and helps alot, the younger is learning. It took a while to get in a grove-during the school year my mom helps with the little one while I work from home and in the summer the older one helps. I thought being a working (outside of the home) mom was tough, then I was a stay at home mom which I think was harder, then I went to a mom who works from home and it got CRAZY hard. Someone posted here on another question to schedule your personal time like an appointment and that I feel is a great way to compartmentalize, I say no when there is a school function and even though my laptop is on and open from when I wake up til way to late I remind myself of the times I didn't have to beg for time off to be with my kids. We do movie nights in the garage(where I can work and spend time), day trips, Find what works for you!

Congratulations on a successful start to your real estate career.  While I don't have children -- real estate involves a lot of time management and who better than a Mom to make that happen?

Good luck.
