Nurses should be paid enough so they do not have to live in 'affordable' housing. The people who work behind the scenes at the hospital don't have to live in 'affordable' housing. the same goes for teachers, firemen and police.

There is a lack of affordable housing. Some people do not want low cost housing in or next to their neighborhoods. Then, there are those that think the homeless can be put into it but who would pay for this?

That's common here. Same applies to teachers, cops, etc. many have to buy out in less expensive counties, then commute 1-2 hours to work.

Los Angeles will always have a lack of affordable housing inventory in the city...that's why a lot of people have to commute for hours and that's why traffic is so bad in here.

It is definitely an issue in my area and all of California. We are likely going to watch home ownership rates stabilize well below the national average because housing is so expensive. This creates so much demand for rent that we in turn see high rents. This makes it harder to save for a down payment for the house you already will struggle to afford.

Our mayor says silly crap like this too, probably just wants to create govt sponsored housing to compete with the existing landlords in town.

Your town may actually have a crisis like this, but here it is just smoke.

Hi Carol - We have lost our affordable home segment, perhaps for good. Low inventory and high demand have pushed prices upward very rapidly, and the new home builders are focused on the upper mid range. I can see a real problem for us down the road, similar to what your experiencing.

People are going on about that out here, thing is the vast majority of the people out here DON'T want that housing!  A lot of the areas being discussed for that are higher priced areas (right now the talk is if you build X number of homes, you must include a percentage of them that are "affordable" housing, builders hate that as do future residents).  Those people don't want that type of housing reducing their property values!
