I think of it as positive, and not just in the real estate field John Meussner.  I've helped start-up a family owned business that went from father to daugher, and is now with a grandson.  How exciting is that, and to still have family that has worked the business for years, there as consultants now - that is pretty special.  I'm thinking if the next generation did not relate or care for the business, they would not be riding anyone's coattails.

I like it, John. To me, it shows a history in the business and suggests a connection between longevity and skill.

I don't think it hurts any.  Though, just because someone has grown up in the business doesn't automatically make them a great Realtor.

"Re-generation Realtor"
"New-generation Realtor"

" 4th Generation Realtor"

"Inter-galactic Realtor"

"In business since 1898"

They can ALL work if the intended audience is known.

If the audience has their heads wrapped in tinfoil, 'Inter-galactic' would be a bad idea.

On the comic side: 16th generation Realtor. "We know where the bones are buried and where they put the keys!"

I think it is a positive marketing tool. Having shared my years of experience with my children, I think they really understand and KNOW the business from a different perspective than someone who hasn't grown up around it.

If you're big on the family tradition go for it. But I don't think it makes any impact on public perception of the agent.

I think, it is a good thing, why not? It means for me: more experience and more connections. It does not guarantee an excellent service, but is a promise:)

How about 30 year of ''combined experience''? ~ what the h. that means?

I work on a comittee with third generation realtors and I'm a second generation one.  I don't market myself as that, though I do market the "Father and Son Team" at times.  For me, I have a very successful background in the information technology arena so I don't see myself as clinging to the coat tails.  Personally, I grew up in it (as I did with computers) and now that I'm burnt on the corporate world, I'm retired and doing real estate.

Most I recall their parents. We got a 4th generation realtor with same name as a major street. That really help.....
