My grandchildren do not attend Government Schools.   They have not been indoctrinated into the PC Culture.  They know the difference between Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Armed Forces Day.

This is something we of past older generations learned in school. Now many schools are out before Memorial Day and parents aren't doing the job of teaching and training. It doesn't bode well for the future generations. 

Memorial Day for my family means a special day that we honor my parents, brother, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents and friends who have fought and died for our freedom and are now gone, but never forgotten.

Our children and grandchildren know what Memorial day means and are thankful we live in a country where others have fought for our freedoms!

No need to ask, they have known for a very long time.

Honoring your Grandfather who was in the Pacific during WWII, honoring your uncle and aunt who served in more recent wars, and honoring every man and woman past or present who has bravely worn a uniform to help preserve our freedom.

Good post. I would drive the children to the nearest cemetery to observe all the American Flags posted at select headstones and explain that what you have today is because these Heros died.

I don't have kids or grandkids, but I find it disgraceful that people are wishing folks a "Happy Memorial Day" and by so saying this, reveal they have no idea what this somber day of remembrance is all about.  My father cried on Memorial Day every year, without fail, teaching my brother and I what the day truly meant.

My son is old enough to understand Memorial Day and when he provides grandchildren my brain will be churning!

Amen and amen! I saw that Water's World segment and was appalled -- days later, I'm still appalled by the stupidity of those young people.

My dad was a tailgunner in a B-24... my kids, their cousins know what Memorial Day is all about. Every day should be Veterans Day! Celebrate those lives whether veterans or not and learn from the loved ones before us!

Kids are really stupid. Jay Leno used to do a sketch on this stuff & it was appauling.

Small children actually know well what most holidays are about, teachers usually do a good job of explaining. 

as a canadian, this was something i was unfamiliar with until recently.

I have not been asked about this holiday as we do not celebrate it in our great land.  Our closest equivalent is Remembrance Day which occurs on November 11 each year.

Since I do not have children nor grandchildren, I have not had to think about it.

grandpa and great grandpa....  Most do not know there is another group of relatives live in town....  They are not with use anymore.
