Totally understandable and being on the border probably doesn't help their feelings of security. Haven't seen it here, but we don't have many places to go, short of moving into the Everglades even more than we are. Now that they have discovered Nile Alligators in Miami which are man-eaters, that won't be happening anytime soon.

Today, Orlando is recovering from the aftermath of the largest massacre in U.S. History (not counting the Civil War).

The usual suspects are involved.  The liberals will of course blame the guns.  Obama hasn't responded yet, he is probably on his prayer mat seeking guidance.

I could handle a remote mountaintop, but Sandy sure couldn't. I am sure the municipalities and county permitting offices will suddenly penalize those who elect for this style of life. Alaska here we come!

I think it leads to an over all cautious feeling among people fed up with the lack of a response and over PC approach by the administration. Sales are strong, listings are slow but steady and a lot of people staying put waiting to see what happens in November

Yes, the US is a safe place to invest money in real estate.  Just yesterday I was having lunch with a friend of mine who just outright stated, I really don't want to travel far anymore.  I would rather have a beach home somewhere around here and go where I feel safe.

Not in our age-restricted community, though I could easily see people from different states in Mexico (Sinaloa, Sonora, and Chihuahua) coming across the border in Tucson to live and work.  They know because they've seen terrorism/drug cartel lawlessness in action.  What I've read about, many have lived through John DL Arendsen

John - I think in general, no.  Perhaps if it was closer to home, this obviously plays a factor in the market because fear affects people's decision making.

Nah, we're in California.  Our biggest threat is Moonbeam Brown and Gavin Newsom!

We've had people on the ISIS hit list out here (Newbury Park) for a few years, so far no "aloha snackbar" issues.  Those of us in the know and with CCWs carry extra mags now, but that's the extent.

Out here, you're more likely to experience issues from the Santa Susana rocket testing facility or regular crime, than you are likely to experience a true act of terror.

I just want to put the fire out before it has a chance to spread. My question was not intended to start a political or social debate and has nothing to do with abiding by fair housing or any other kind of discriminatory overtones.

I've just been speaking with a number of folks lately (many of which have immigrated to America from Middle Eastern countries) who have either recently moved to our community and/or to clients who are looking to move here. When I asked them what brings them to our community answers are almost unanimous.

They really are concerned about the safety of living in urban and suburban areas because of the increase in violence and terrorism. Or they want to become more self sufficient and go as much off the grid as possible.

But almost everyone I speak with nowadays brings up the subject of terrorism as part of the reason they desire to move away from crowded environments.

That's it. So please let's not turn this into an accusatory and incendiary discussion with threatening innuendo. This is a totally innocent question and I'm just looking for realistic and pertinent answers.

Afterall we can't just bury our heads in the sand and pretend that terrorism is not a reality and has not become a part of our daily lives in one way or another.

Yes. But not only in the ways you describe - to move to safer areas. We also have a number of refugees in my area and they need housing. (For a moment, let's forget the notion they could be involved with anything negative at all and for my comment's purposes, let's please assume they are victims and need housing and abide by fair housing regulation vs. begin any kind of debate).
