In California, property taxes are impacted by Proposition 13 which typically limits increases but our state is famous(or is it infamous?) for finding other interesting streams of revenues for their coffers.

Our assessments were unrealistically high for years and finally this year they were adjusted downward.  Let's see if the taxes will follow suit!

Gone up & I don't think it's right. During the downturn years sellers were being 'over taxed' because tax rolls didn't follow market value for years. We are being reassessed this year & it looks like trouble.

We have a great feature in our MLS tax base that gives us the last 3 years taxes + or - .  It's fast to check.

In my jurisdiction, property assessments and property taxes are handled by different authorities.  Whether either goes up or down depends on the particular property, assessment issues, municipal or regional government and other factors.
