An online friend, so someone you'll likely never see in person or ever meet?  Yeah, I'm not worried about it.  I have several friends who support killary, I laugh at them and point out the flaws in their logic.

You do not have to agree on politics to be friends.

I don't know why this election should be any different.  Are not all elections providing polar opposites for your choosing pleasure? 

We're not ever going to all agree; that's why it goes to a vote so what's the big deal? 

I hate what happened up here in Canada but know that we'll have another chance soon once the novelty of nice hair and weed wears off

I have lots of misinformed friends, at both ends of the spectrum and many inbetween.

I try not to irritate them with too much logic about their candidate.

Just enjoying the process and prepared for life with a new leader whoever it may be.

One of my very favorite bloggers here is my polar opposite when it comes to politics - and I will continue to like her and enjoy her posts no matter who she votes for.   I was amazed at some of the comments on a Q&A yesterday on both sides.  All I can say is that this is certainly the most interesting election cycle in my lifetime, and I don't plan to move to Canada no matter what happens.

I had a friend, of over 35 years, actually state publically on FB that if any of her friends did not support her candidate she would not be friends with them any more ... not just FB friends ... but friends in life.  

Good Lord ... I thought ... has she lost her mind.  She is going to throw away a 35+ year friendship because someone does not support her candidate? 

I sit back and say nothing. Yet, now I wonder if that person is really a friend. Does it impact my relationship with them?  I feel that it might because of her stand on it all - not mine.

I have lots of way-right and way-left, libertarians, anarchist and conspiranoic friends. I make fun of all of them and if they get offended, F em. They can choose to overlook. I do.

I'm sorry.

If I limited my relationships with other agents to those whose political views I identify with, I wouldn't be here.

I've read many ignorant, intolerant and uneducated political views and economic predicitions (which never came true), expressed by real estate agents and mortgage brokers in their blogs.

Dick Greenberg Not at all. Everyone is entitled to their opinion when it comes to politics.

No change in the relationship.  Since they are not a close personal friend there are many things about them that I do not know and if I listen to their view I might learn something I did not know.  Maybe it will be that there are many others who have the same view or maybe, and I am saying just maybe, I need to revise my prospective. 

I am pretty politically opinionated. I have been SO SHOCKED at this election cycle and the people who are rabid in one camp or the other. Elections are often the 'lesser of evils,' but there aren't any 'lessers' in this race, and I've decided that, for the first time, I have no opinion because I can't figure out how we got here, so I find I'm not reacting to anyone's online rants. 

If this is going to affect your relationship, I think it wasn't a strong relationship to begin with.

In my opinion, the relationship should not be affected.  We have seen near fights at a party during the last election, and in Larkspur young men threatening 3 little old Republican ladies who were registering people to vote.  They had to call the cops.

Sadly, many relationships end based on that, sort of like the Civil War, when brothers fought against each other,  So, we just stay out of the whole thing, these are the worst of times and the best of times...A

Eh.  I don't befriend people because of political views, so I will not unfriend them for those views either.  

I hope in this crazy election cycle we can remember what we have in common, not what could tear us apart.

As it has been said many times: "as long as their are two people on Earth there will be a difference of opinion."

A friend of mine was asked to leave a party given by another friend when she expressed a differing opinion about the current POTUS. Too bad that some just cannot control themselves. We can all respectfully disagree is my opinion....er...I guess some can't!

Dick, I personally just ignore all the political posts, we're all free to support whomever we wish, someone else's opinion on a candidate is not going to affect my feelings about them.

Probably not at all.  I have real friends that may not agree with my opinion or candidate choice.

I believe in 'live and let live', so I would continue with my on-line friend, and not discuss politics Dick Greenberg.  I certainly would not 'drop' a friend because of their political views or religious beliefs, etc., etc.  To me, a friend is a friend, and we don't have to think the same in all areas to still enjoy our on-line time together.

I do not hold their political opinions against them. Especially in times like this it is hard to embrace any of the candidates. 

I try to ignore it even if I feel they are idiotic for their preference (LOL); fortunately, if it's on FB, you can hide posts until after Election Day.  This, too, shall pass.

I can't spend my time worrying about others opinions online about politics. There are always differences. And if it's a friend that likely would not change things. Like Pat, I am not moving to Canada

Not at all. I have my personal political views, but I keep them off social media. I have friends on the fringes of both sides as well as more central, I just chalk it up to who they are and stay out of politics online. 

I'll discuss anything with anyone in person, but online just leads to assumptions, accusations and messes. 

It won't, because online is not a place for politics, sex, nor religion. Besides, devil's advocate says: it's only your opinion, you may well be the one supporting the idiot. There's no sense getting in online fights over these topics; some topics are best discussed in person with facts over opinions.

You can turn off those notifications from that friend til the election is over.

My best friend in this business is on the opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to religion and politics.  You just can't fix those people.  Roll with it, they'll get the message come November...

      If it is that witch Hillary Clinton, they are blocked and ignored until after the Election.

     How can you communicate with someone - online or anywhere else - who would vote for such a liar / murderer?  

If that person is only an on-line friend then I'd probably let it pass.  I try like heck to be open-minded and try to make any judgements I do make after I have a chance to speak and/or meet with them. 

I will have lost some respect for this "friend", though, I would try to ignore the politics and religion.  

Though, typically those that continue to post about either of these subjects are not the ones I would consider my friends.

It is an on-line friend...not your carbon copy. Just think of the heated discussions you can look forward to.

I don't care as long as they don't try to stick it up my nose.  I don't talk about politics or religion on my social media.  I consider myself a raging moderate.  If someone I like chooses to back the candidate most likely to blow the world up, there is nothing I can do about it.

Differences makes things interesting and entertaining as it would the relationship.

It wouldn't.  You never know what someone's beliefs truly are or WHY they're voting for someone.  This election cycle, for example, many people are voting for the person they think will be most disruptive to a political system that has failed us.  It has nothign to do with whether they like the candidate.

Unless part of the strength of their online posting included posting stuff about it to my "wall" or tagging me in their post, then it would have absolutely no impact. I'm happy we're all allowed to have our own opinions, live would be darned dull otherwise. 

In all honesty, I can't say it doesn't give me pause, Dick Greenberg.  

But ... does it motivate me to "un-friend" them?  Or not do business?  No ... I try to keep the personal out of my online presence ... and certainly my business judgement and decisions ...

First, the process is not over (others might come forward) and the choices are so limited that it should shed a bit of sympathy on the situation; it might be a choice of desparation. I might be more concerned if your friend were leaning more toward some of the candidates that dropped out.

To each their own.  I have learned that the political battle is not one I choose to engage in with an "online friend". Recently, I was in a bit of a "pissin"(pun intended) contest over the possible restroom changes and realized that it was a waste of energy to have this disagreement online.

Ha, ha,, ha.... I enjoy reading reading the comments in this one, because in the answers many would agree or disagree which is the subject of the post. Lets make America great again.... ooooppppss....

It wouldn't really. I would likely just stay away from discussing politics with them. 

It does not affect my relationships. I am very outspoken about political views and I also do a lot of research so when I make a statement I will say it is my opinion or I will state the facts behind it. I have a very very good friend who was never interested in politics became interested in politics this year and he is feeling the bern. I will still do business with him although for the life of me can not undertand why an entrepreneur would ever vote that way. We have some lively respectful discussions. I love politics but I love the freedom of discussion and speech even more. So I welcome all on my Facebook page, my blog, etc to take part in the debates and discussions. I have not experienced the same from others, unfortunately.

Once upon a time, Mike and I each voted for different candidates...we have been married for 47 years.  We each have a mind of our own.

We used to be able to agree to disagree... used to be if you had a friend they could have their own opinion and still be a friend. Its really a sorry world where people feel their opinion  means more than anyone else. Tolerance and discussion are thrown out the window for my way or the highway control with no friendly debate....Kinda pitiful.

I have a few that are rooting for one or the other, and just pass over their comments.

It shouldn't affect it as long as you don't talk politics. I find politics and religion are 2 subjects one should avoid with friends and clients.

It's hard to talk politcs. So typically I find it best to just bite my tongue. Oh, and I pray their candidate doesn't get elected...but with politics these days, it's just the lesser of two pathetic excuses for the best possible person we can find to elect in this country (IMHO).
