In my own home, shoes are not worn.   Sometimes no pants either but that may be considered too much information.

We do not remove our shoes in our household. In fact, my hubby and our housemate both usually put them on every morning even if planning to stay home all day. I would, however, do my best to respect a seller's preferences when showing a home, or bring & use shoe booties, and request that my clients do the same.

As for the all the detox stuff? I'm a believer in the "get used to the germs etc." philosophy vs. the "hide from everything then get sick when you walk out of your house" viewpoint.

In our house, shoes off at the front door.  When viewing a home, shoes off except if it looks dirty or for investment/rehab properties.  For our listings, we ask buyers to remove shoes or use the shoe covers we provide.  We had a open house once with very large turnout.  At one point there were over 30 pairs of shoes lined up in the foyer.

No outdoor shoes inside the house has become common practice over the last 20 years I've been going in and out of other people's houses.  It used to be mostly just Asians or Asian-Americans, but no more.  In my own house, I leave shoes at the door.

Interesting.  Does the vinegar get rid of calcium/lime/rust?

As to the shoes, lysol & Dr. Sholes work wonders too.  I don't remove my shoes until I'm walking into the shower or I'm going to be off my feet for a while (TV, sleeping).  My podiatrist said the worst thing you can do is go barefoot.

We are WAYYY too paranoid about germs. I am married to my carpet/floor steam cleaner and go through gallons of white vinegar for cleaning. Filters on all showers and most water sources (hard water is more a concern) and my garden shoes are at the door. But no shoe removal is otherwise required. Luna would kinda negate that anyway . . .

It's common practice to remove shoes in many places ( Seattle is one). We just go by : if shoes are dirty or muddy take them off, if they are clean leave them on. We clean a lot with white vinegar and water. I'm working with some Hindu's, and when i meet with them, it's normal to remove shoes and sit on floor.
