The 3 S's as I like to say...sun, sand and surf!

Affordability is the main reason. You can get here what costs double elsewhere. Perhaps the weather is appealing as it is warm here. Lastly, prices are stable and long term investing pays off. Other reasons are subjective

3. Hi-tech & Bio-Tech

The laid back attitude and relatively moderate traffic and coastal lifestyle are all reasons too. And whil Candice A. Donofrio is correct, many retire out of Cali for AZ, we still get over run like fleas on hound dog every summer by the Zonies who are escaping AZ's 115 degree summers for our 75 & sunny America's Finest City!

We are a huge life sciences/bio-tech/bio-farm center nationally

It's Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia !   In this resort like outdoor environment with four unique seasons, retirement is the number one reason and how my husband and I came to be together.

Second is people come here for the fishing, hunting and outdoor activities.

The third would be work related either here around the lake or in nearby Roanoke, Lynchburg or Danville.   It is only a short (and beautiful) commute to any of these cities and many other smaller communities.

Jobs,( stable economy), environment, to be close to Washington DC.

Military, Government Employees and Contractors, and High Tech jobs.

Number one is to work at the University of Rochester(Strong Memorial).

Number two to go to one of the colleges(RIT, St. John Fisher, UofR and Nazareth).

Number three will be Photonic's if it takes off as well as they say.

Work or family. No one retires in Illinois!!!!

The colleges have professors come and go, we are a vacation destination for weekend homes for many and we have a huge retirement sect of buyers.

Manufacturing, Manufacturing and Manufacturing.  It's the Recreational Vehicle Capital of the World, as well as a large amount of Manufatured housing.

The top reason is quality of life.  Situated at the base of the Sierra Nevadas, less than an hour from Lake Tahoe and all the outdoors activities one could want (thanks to 4 seasons).  That and little or no traffic.

2nd to that would be cost of living.  SF Bay area transplants are finding this out daily.

3rd would be retirement, combining the first 2 reasons, with home prices and taxes well below CA averages.

The military brings them here, they are retired and coming to live near family or they are coming to work at one of the industries in the area.

we have two "T" stops in our town that go to South Station in Boston.... great commuter town for those who work in Boston.... 55 minute train ride....

A lot of professionals relocate to Fort Wayne because of the expansion of both of the major hospitals.  

Economy, great weather, Marijuana.    The job market is good too!

Very few outsiders do, however when they do I think the thing they are looking for is the simple hometown values that you find in rural America.

Value in homebuying; proximity to jobs (e.g. NYC); beauty of area.

Jobs would be #1 with one of the countries lowest unemployment states.  Moving "back home" seems to be #2.  Finally, cost of living seems to be in check in Nebraska.  It's definitely not the weather.  We've had blizzard warnings, severe thunderstorm warnings, and tornado warnings all in the same day. 

Job opportunities, good schools and an excellent quality of life.
